Preface
Poetry, is a way of expression that would otherwise stay within.
It is and always will be a window into the deepest aspects of my own awareness. The subtleties of history, and the frailties of the human spirit all coming to the fore.
The impacts on awareness of a world without, synthesised and filtered according to choice and desire based on a world within.
I have a strong penchant for rhyme, which entertains me on many levels. My first poem at the age of nine Boats and Ships
laid the foundation.
Without the likes of Spike Milligan, Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke and Oscar Wilde to name a few, my world might be a greatly different place; such was their influence on me. I love their work.
The music in rhyming poetry lends itself to broadcast of any type. The rhythm is unmistakable as we are whisked along on journeys to anywhere and everywhere. The emotion bleeds through with relentless power, such that one is moved. I am always moved on some level when I read poems, even my own a second third or fourth time. Sometimes it’s like I unfurl to myself, yet seek the gentle breeze of new to share awareness beyond self. The reason why I publish.
The word is a most powerful tool to convey deep feelings. It is a core element in our understanding of everything we encounter in our awareness. Poetry demonstrates this most clearly. For with but a few short words combined in sentences and formed into verses, we create a simple picture which almost always has the nature and form of the onion; many layered, and can reduce one to tears!
This anthology combines poems from the beginning, and some from the last few years. The desire to write poetry has been strong and constant recently, and there is a strong spiritual bias in most poems; something that reflects my own journey, here and now! The desire to share strong and unshakable spiritual impressions at this time, is something I do with pleasure, in the hope it will expand a notion within for yourself; the messages being short and clear.
I find I write poems with relative ease, so for me this is indeed a gift which humbles me.
I have much planned as I write, which I hope will entertain in the coming years. More fun and frolic, laughter and joy I hope.
If my writings were to form my only legacy, I feel sure, the poems would feature strongly in a retrospective.
Hopefully, with warm and generous reviews, recognising the struggle to get inside, out.
I know little of form and structure to be honest, preferring to simply put words on paper.
This is an area I intend to explore, to learn from peers and life and more.
(Whoops, that just slipped out!).
Everything is metre.
I am always interested in feedback. Always considering specific subject areas to look at for potential epics.
Publishing through 1331PRESS is a journey. Learning about publishing is distracting but necessary.
It also holds the promise of growth, and support for other poets besides myself, something I am very interested in, and actively cultivating!
This will only become a realty with your interest and patronage.
To this end, I am (slowly) developing a 1331PRESS
page on the changetheworldnow.org and roydow.com websites, until it can support its own website.
Details on the expanding catalogue will also be made available at the two sites.
If you have purchased this book, thank you.
I hope any and all readers enjoy reading the poems, as much as I
