About this ebook

Leila & Nugget Mysteries are cute, funny chapter books that get even reluctant readers to beg for one more chapter. In this outing, Leila Beal and her little dog, Nugget, must crack the case of the neighborhood turtlenapping.
Leila and Nugget have big plans for their snow day—that is, until a neighborhood pet goes missing. Now, they’ve got to solve the mystery before the turtlenapper can strike again. Could it be Weirdy Beardy, the construction worker? Perhaps it’s the cranky, old neighbor lady. Or maybe, just maybe, this is an inside job. Who Stole Mr. T? will keep young readers guessing until the last page.

Leila & Nugget Mysteries reward developing readers with nonstop laughs, twists, and—of course—cute pets.

    SNOW DAY

    Nugget, I think . . .

    POOMF!

    . . . we should try . . .

    POOMF!

    . . . staying on the . . .

    POOMF!

Leila couldn’t finish a single sentence before her pup dove into another snow pile.

Nugget acts like he’s never seen snow before! Leila’s friend Kait said.

He does this every time it snows, Leila replied. It’s his favorite thing.

Nugget pulled his head out of yet another snow pile and wagged his tail. His face was one big snowball.

He’s the Abominable Snow Dog! Kait giggled.

Come on, Mr. Abominable, Leila said. We’ll never get anywhere if you keep this up.

Nugget tilted his head, thought about that for a second, and—POOMF!—dove again.

Nugget likes snow days even more than we do, and he doesn’t even go to school, Kait said.

Leila wasn’t too sure about that. She hadn’t been able to think about anything except for the snow day ever since she’d first heard about the possibility of a storm earlier that week. Leila never paid attention to the news when her parents watched, but when the weather guy said snow, her head popped up from her mystery book like Nugget’s would when he heard the word treat.

Did he say ‘snow’? Leila asked.

Eight to twelve inches in some parts of the viewing area, TV weather guy said.

Eight to twelve inches?! Leila squealed.

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch, Leila’s mom warned.

Oh, the chickens would be counted. That week, the only thing that Leila and all the other students in Mrs. Pierce’s third-grade class could
