INTRODUCTION
At one point or another we’ve all been inspired by a guitar. You’ve either seen one in the window of a guitar store, or you’ve seen a band live and in person shredding it up on the guitar. Of course, you look amazing with a guitar in your hands, but then what? Don’t worry in the slightest. This is a common problem that many beginners run into when looking to play the guitar for the very first time.
The difficulty persists when a beginner doesn’t know what to do when practicing and rehearsing. What exercises should they do? Which ones would be perfect for a newbie to the guitar?
If you can find the right guitar exercises for you and your playing style, that’ll make all the difference in becoming a better guitarist. But, where do you find said material? Glad you asked.
Since you’re reading this, there’s hope for you that a book is available that can cover all your bases, and that’s true. In this text, you’ll find exercises, activities, and more to sharpen your skills as a beginning guitarist. By improving your skills on the guitar every single day, you’ll experience guitar like you never thought possible.
Still, like any rational human being, you may be thinking, how will this book work for you? Well, here you have an author who’s grinded on the guitar from the very beginning. With a long history of taking piano and guitar lessons, I began my journey the summer of my high school year playing guitar. Over that summer, I diligently went through hours of tablature and chord charts to try to impress my friends and girls. For over a decade, I’ve continued to hone my craft as a Director of Music at a local church and record regularly with musicians around the country. It is a love of guitar that I want to present to you, with all the tricks and tips to get you in an even better place than the one I find myself presently.
Truly, there are many benefits to playing the guitar. But here are some of the most important ones you should pay attention to. First, one of the greatest benefits of playing the guitar has to do with enjoyment and fun. After a long, hard day at work, what’s a great way to unwind? How about playing some guitar? This instrument can be a stress reducer, an entertainment vessel, and so much more.
Secondly, the guitar can be that hobby that you’ve always wanted to have in your life. Think about it for a second. Everyone has something that they do on the side to pass the time and bring enrichment into their lives. Why can't this be the guitar for you? Lastly, the guitar can bring about the best relationships around. When you get good enough to play with others, the guitar can be that instrument that you can jam with others on. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be able to create some sweet music together that you never thought was possible before.
But, ultimately, the proof is in the pudding. Over my time playing the guitar, I’ve been able to bring out the best in people. Normally, humans just need a little push to bring about greatness. And why can't that be you? Maybe you don’t have the best ear with music, or you don’t come from a musical family. But, that doesn’t need to matter for you when you’re picking up the guitar for the very first time. You have to realize that everyone started somewhere. I think about one of my students, whose name was Aiden. Aiden played guitar starting in the middle. Over my time teaching him, he not only excelled at the guitar but also the bass, where he ended up joining a folk band that is touring the states. How cool that Aiden started with
