Evie woke from her lovely sleep and wondered why she could not smell sizzling bacon and more importantly why were her bed clothes so heavy? Evie tried to move her little legs, but she had to struggle really hard to move them and when she did, she heard loud clunking noises.

Evie felt frightened and wondered if a huge, ugly monster had crept in and was now sitting on her bed watching her maybe waiting to eat her too. As Evie had these thoughts, she lay very still.

Her heart was beating so fast she could hear it in her ears, Evie was too scared to move or to look in case the monster was real and snarled at her with his huge teeth, but Evie knew she had to get out of bed as it was Christmas eve morning.

Evie decided she would need to be very brave, so she shouted in a very loud voice, There is no such thing as ‘monsters. Monsters do not exist … I do not believe in monsters. I’m going to close my eyes tightly and when I open them you will be gone. As Evie shouted this, she bravely opened one eye and peeped over the top of her duvet.

Evie let out a loud laugh when she discovered all of last night’s dinner dishes, all the pots, and pans, all the knives and forks, and all the plates and cups were all sitting on her bed. Evie gave a huge sigh of relief that there wasn’t a huge ugly monster sitting on her bed.

It had just been Mummy putting the dishes away, but she had put them away in the wrong
