SunChapter One
The Warm Day
When Mother’s voice announced the mealtime call, it was not very long before she heard the squealing noisies and skidding pairs of feet slowing from a fast run.
The Emery children soon filled the dining room of the cozy home with mirth, merriment and fun.
Mary and Robert the 10-year-old twins, 8-year-old Janey, 6-year-old Steve and 4-year-old Annie quickly scurried to the table after they washed up.
The two boys wrestled and laughed as they nearly collided into the wall during the wild round-up.
Father and Mother sat in their usual places at each end of the table.
Most of the chaotic family discussion was centered around the hot weather that was unbearable.
The date was May 6, 1965 and it was a Thursday.
The weather was unseasonably humid and warm that day.
The aroma of the tater tot hot dish lingered in the air.
Mother had picked up that cherished and very economical recipe from a booth at the Minnesota State Fair.
It was one of the family favorites she would often prepare.
Everything Mother did was filled with great love and care.
Father lifted his glass of milk and before he took a sip, he complimented Mother, I don’t know how you make such great meals, wash the endless loads of laundry, and keep our house so neat and clean!
