About this ebook
Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:
#1 We want to put forward a bold and honest analysis of the world around us, even if it creates tension with readers. We believe it is important to confront difficult issues honestly, even if that creates tension with friends and allies.
#2 Within the human family, we face a struggle for social justice in societies that do not operate in a manner consistent with widely held values concerning dignity, solidarity, and equality.
#3 The coming decades are likely to be marked by dramatic dislocations as a result of our social and ecological crises. We do not advocate nihilism, but we take seriously the biophysical limits of the ecosphere and human limits.
#4 We must have multiple working hypotheses to deal with the multiple cascading crises. We must understand and be able to deal with the crisis of consumption, which is easy to understand, but we must also understand and be able to deal with the crisis of meaning, which is not so easy.

The world is on a collision course with human activities inflicting harsh and often irreversible damage on the environment and on critical resources. If not checked, many of our current practices will lead to the world’s demise.
#2
The task of creating new systems is daunting, because most people do not want to change, and they believe that the human condition will always be bleak.
#3
We are both progressive in our approach to analyzing systems of wealth and power, and conservative in our lifestyle. We are reluctant to change and uncomfortable with much of what is considered cutting edge in today’s world.
#4
We are all the same kind of animal, and
