    Bad Decisions - Sammantha Saffell

    Chapter One

Another night at this blasted club while Santiago works is another night I’ll never get back.  I love Santiago and Savannah but I hate this bloody place for the fact that so many of the hellborns and humans within our city come here looking for something they cannot get in other clubs.  Normally I stay at Santiago’s side but tonight he has asked that I make sure the place is secure for our patrons.  When I volunteered to be Santiago and Savannah’s guard it was to ensure they’re safety.  I had no intention of taking over as head of security.  At some point, it just happened and everyone looked to me to make decisions on not just security for our leaders but for the clan as well.

My initial role as their guard was to ensure their safety against two males.  The first was Ethan.  Santiago and Savannah had been living with the threat of Ethan for the last few years.  He was a dangerous male that posed a great threat to both of them. Ethan’s obsession with Savannah had almost cost us her and Meri.  The fear that it could happen again was very real and none of us wished to relive that ever again.

Hugo’s murderous mate was the other threat we had to be concerned with.  Dante has been silent for the last two month since he murdered Hugo.  Dante wasn’t obsessed with Santiago and Savannah.  He was obsessed with power.  Dante wanted the clan for himself and the city.  If he succeeded, he would kill those of us who would fight against him and the others would be forced to serve him.  His silence made us all nervous.  It was only a matter of time before he made a move against us.  Until then, we wait as vampire law requires us to do so.

As much as I dislike this place Santiago seems to hate it even more than I do these days. There was a time Obsidian was his life.  Santiago ensured it ran smoothly, was safe for every patron, and profitable.  It was a business Hugo and Santiago had built together until Hugo betrayed him.  Now the place serves as a reminder of Hugo and the family they once were.  I was waiting for the day to come when he turned the business over to his second in command, Cristian.  He was a male Santiago had trained to be able to run all of the business to help ensure he would have time for a life outside of business.  Cristian had a mate but the male seemed to love the business world.  It was the perfect solution to the problem we all saw.

I walk through the club, scanning the crowd as I move, looking for any threats when a scent of a perfume creeped through the scent of sex and misery.  It was a scent I have only smelled in my dreams in the last thirty-nine years.  It was the fragrance of roses, of my Rose.  My focus shifts as I scan every face, looking for her.  I stopped moving entirely as I split the room into four sections in my mind.  I scanned the first section to my right.  Nothing but humans and hellborns pressed against one another.  I moved to the next section which included the black top bar.  Again, she was not there.  I turned a quarter of a turn, scanning more of the room.  Where was she?  A hand slides up my back.  It was a touch I knew well or I did at one time in my life.  I felt as my body wanted to relax into that touch.  My brain however reminded the rest of me of what happened the last time Rose had been this close to me.

    I quickly turn, grabbing her
