My name is Eve A. James and I am a member of Romance Writers of America. Writing for young adults is my passion, especially when I can combine it with my love for paranormal. I can’t imagine anything more exciting than a place where an ordinary girl or a boy finds its rightful place among the gifted, immortal or heavenly creatures, where falling in love for the first time, discovering who you really are, is just a beginning. As a child, I was fascinated by fairy tales by Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Andersen, with their dark twists and universal truth that good always trumps evil. Influenced by a strong hero’s character from those stories she started writing tales where an ordinary person could do extraordinary things. Writing has turned into a passion that I admit I am too weak to resist.I treasure a good story that pulls me inside and allows me to walk the path alongside my favorite characters.

Escape
I pressed tightly against the brick wall of the old crumbling building making myself invisible. Feeling the rough texture of the damp brick, I took a careful step backward, avoiding the broken glass and pieces of wood scattered around. The structure that was once a factory, now stood empty and abandoned in the rural district where I found myself on this night. Careful not to make any sound, I waited. My heart was beating fast, and my throat grew dry, as I heard the man’s heavy footsteps. He was getting closer.
The thudding of a sole hitting the pavement grew louder with each lazy footfall. His steps echoed around in the night. I was trapped in a disserted part of this otherwise tourist infested town of Valencia. I shrunk deeper into the darkness this doorway provided. Easing my breathing, I counted in my head trying to calm my frantic heart and push past the icy fear that paralyzed me.
The splash of water as his boot connected with a rain puddle told me he was just around the corner, a few feet away. Holding my breath, I freeze, squinting into darkness, trying to make out the unfamiliar shapes. Not being able to see color, I strained against the darkness of monotone grays that were harder to distinguish.
A large shadow moved in the darkness. Seeing him, I bit down, locking my jaw and willing myself not to scream as he passed my hiding spot. The coppery taste of my own blood filled my mouth. I didn’t swallow, and didn’t make any movements, in fear he would hear it. He was very tall and heavy-set, fat even. The dark baseball cap he pulled low hid his face and all I saw was his jaw-line if one can call it that. The stubble covered his fat double chin and disappeared into a grimy, crumpled shirt. I couldn’t see him clearly, but I could smell him. The heavy scent of cheap, bathroom-bought cologne clung to the air and me. The scent of it making me nauseated.
Here kitty, kitty,
he taunted, stalking toward the commercial part of town,
