A Comprehensive Description of Academic Disciplines in Engineering and Technology Fields - Phoebe Mwaniki

ENGINEERING, COMPUTER & MEDIA RELATED DISCIPLINES

This book answers four key questions paramount in making the right career choices. These are:

How do I know my career?

Which disciplines of study are within my field of interest?

What do these disciplines of study entail?

Which career opportunities are available in these disciplines?

The choices we make are like seeds planted in a field, the harvest will eventually catch up with us, and ‘now’ will determine whether the fruits will be sweet or bitter later,’ Phoebe.

    In short, ‘Be sober now’.

    FOREWORD

This book is dedicated to every high school learner and any other learner aspiring to join any institution of higher learning now or in the future.

Career choice is a significant factor in the overall productivity of an individual and the stability of the community in general. Proper career choices can only be made if the individual thoroughly understands the right career path to take to achieve his/her aspirations. This will be achieved by equipping our young people in high schools with knowledge and information about disciplines offered in institutions of higher learning and what they entail (their descriptions). This knowledge is paramount to appropriate programme choices and consequently right career paths.

This book endeavours to empower the learner with knowledge he/she requires to make correct career choices in a simplified, well-articulated manner that can be understood by all high school learners, career guides, parents, guardians, and mentors. These disciplines are retrieved and carefully grouped according to their major fields of study. With this knowledge, a learner can therefore apply for his/her programme to institutions of higher learning confidently within and across borders.

Kindly note: Some of the disciplines in this book may be offered in different institutions of higher learning singly or in combination with others, and the description details of each discipline will vary from one institution to another.

    Mwaniki Phoebe, Ph.D.
