My name is Sherri Fulmer Moorer. I write because I’ve always loved to do it, and ebooks allowed me to share those stories with readers. The purpose of my writing is to escape reality and experience the adventure of ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances. I write in a variety of genres because I can’t be pigeon-holed into one area, and I’m many other things in addition to being an author. I work full-time in professional licensing, which is great for keeping me in touch with people and reality and, in turn, inspires me to write more. I’m married and live in the woods with two parrots that keep our hearts, home, and lives filled with joy and silliness that most people find strange. Author Note 

Istarted a series of stories revolving around our sun conure, Zack, after we built and moved into our new home in 2008. Many people enjoyed the stories, and I expanded Zack's imaginary adventures to include our Twitter pals in the Anipal Land and Parrot Pals story series that I post on the blog portion of the  Conure Corner website.  

Hanging Out With Zack was the original story. I hoped to publish it as a children's book, but multiple rounds of submissions have landed solid rejections. I revised and retitled Zack’s Backyard Adventure during the COVID19 lockdown and tried to query it again, only to find that stories with animals as protagonists are no longer popular. A couple of publishers agreed to publish the book if I would hire and pay an illustrator. Self-publishing is cost-prohibitive and requires expensive software that I have no other use for, as I’m primarily a sci-fi, speculative, and mystery/suspense writer. I relegated the project to a back burner in hopes that animal stories might trend again, or that a new publisher would open that’s willing to accept this project. Then two things happened: Chloe, our female sun conure, passed in a tragic accident in December 2017, and my Dad passed away from complications with lung cancer in August 2020. 

These events made me realize that we think that we have more time, but eventually we're wrong. I want to publish these stories in honor of Zack, not in memory of Zack. It is time to take this dream off my heart and into reality.
