    Chapter 1: The Beginning

Within a few moons you will be initiated into wolf hood, my son, pack leader Arnold said to his son.

Yes, father, the young man replied, with his head down.

Sound nervous, my son, Arnold stated, with his hand on his son’s shoulder.

I am, father, he said, looking up.

No need to be. It is a great thing to be a part of, Arnold smiled at his son.

    The young man just nodded.

The moon is approaching. Time for you and the other young to stay in the tent, Asta told him, as she walked over to her son.

    Yes, mother, he said, nodding.

Good, my son, she mentioned. Anneke, Catarina! she called out. The two girls walked over to them. Go with Christoph to the tent.

Anneke took her younger sister by the hand and followed Christoph to the tent. When they got inside they gather around and sat down.

Happy to become a werewolf? Anneke asked Christoph.

Does not matter if I were happy or not. Going to happen no matter what I feel, Christoph responded.

Still could have feelings. I cannot wait! Catarina exclaimed, excitedly.

You have many, many moons before that happens, Anneke told her sister and chuckling to herself.

What say you, Anneke? Christoph asked.

Ask me again after your first time, she responded. They both smiled at each other.

In the far distance howling could be heard. This made the rest of the pack nervous. Werewolves can be very territorial with one another.

I fear other werewolves will find us, Friedrich said, who was second in command.

I fear that too. Get the rest of the pack together, Arnold said with concern.

Yes, pack leader, he affirmed, then ran on all fours towards the other two males. Dietrich, Marx, get ready for an attack.

Let them come, Marx declared, as he growled.

I will fetch the women, Dietrich said.

No need. Emma and I are ready to fight, Asta said, as they both walked up to them.

Emma and Marx guard the tent, Arnold barked.

The werewolves stood guard waiting for the attack of the rival pack.

Three werewolves stood in the distance. They howled then charged. Arnold led his pack in a howl and braced for the attack.

The rival leader used so much force, that he tackled Arnold hard to the ground. The rival’s mate went after Asta and the rival’s brother, Symon went after Friedrich.

Symon aggressively bite and slash at Friedrich, that Dietrich tried to intervene, but being over powered he laid down and yelped. Symon quickly went after Emma, who put up a good fight.

Marx went after the rival, Velten. The rival had pinned Arnold down and viciously bit and slashed him. Marx jumped on Velten, but was knocked off. Arnold took the chance to run off into the night.

Asta as well was vicious beaten up by the more experience Angelika. She too ran off following her mate.

Velten turned his attention to the rest of the pack.

Emma and Friedrich had to choose to either stay and be on the bottom of the pack or run away with their leaders with their tails between the legs. They chose to run.

They must leave their young. Staying in the pack with a new leader will force them to watch the young die and lose mating rights.

Symon stood by Dietrich and Marx to make sure they stay submissive. Velten went to Marx to assert his dominance. He stood on all fours over Marx, who tried to nip at him. Velten attacked him till he yelped and submitted. Velten ran over to Dietrich, who quickly held his head down and tail between his legs. He licked Velten’s face.

Fetch our young, Velten instructed Angelika. She promptly headed to where they were first spotted.

Velten slowly made his way to the tent where the three young stayed quiet and hidden. The young could hear growling outside.

Christoph grabbed his dagger. Catarina held close to her sister. Both girls were in tears. Christoph positioned himself in front of the girls.

Velten stuck his head in the tent. The werewolf started growling louder. Christoph held his dagger towards the wolf.

A mere human challenging a werewolf? he questioned, with a toothy grin.

If it means protecting the ones I care about, Christoph responded, sternly.

You are a brave pup, I like it. Offspring of the pack leader or second in command? the werewolf asked.

Pack leader’s and they are the second in command, the young man answered.

Very good. You are close of age, yes? the wolf asked.

Yes, I am and in a few moons from now I can properly challenge you, Christoph responded, while getting closer to the werewolf.

That won’t be necessary. When you become of age, you and one of the girls behind you will be my second in command, the werewolf said, and then left the young to themselves.

You did not kill them? Symon asked, surprisingly.

No. I like the boy. He is going to be my second when he comes of age, Velten stated.

But, I am your brother! You promise me that position! Symon snarled.

You question my decision?! I am the pack leader now, Symon, Velten snarled back. I will have no trouble banishing you!

Symon backed down and grumbled as he walked away from his brother.

Angelika arrived with their two young in tow.

Introduce them to the three young inside the tent, Velten said to his mate.

You did not kill them? she asked, staring puzzling at her mate. You always kill the old leader’s young.

I like the older one. He will be a great werewolf, he responded.

She stared at him then instructed her daughter to take her younger brother to the tent. They cautiously entered the tent.

Are you the leader’s young? asked Christoph.

Yes, the young girl answered, quietly.

I am Anneke and this is my younger sister Catarina.

    I am Christoph.

Eva and this is Felix, she introduced, holding her brother.

I am eight, Catarina revealed, from behind Anneke.

I am ten and he is five, Eva responded.

Both of us are near werewolf age, Christoph said, gesturing to Anneke.

    Sixteen then? Eva asked.

    Christoph nodded.

Chapter 2: Life in the Pack...

    Several years later

It was a nice warm morning. The pack leader and his brother were checking out how close they were to the village and what livestock they had. Angelika, Marx and the young were by the river that was close by. Christoph, Anneke, and Dietrich stayed to watch out for anything.

Dietrich. Keep an eye out, Christoph told him.

Where are you going? Dietrich asked.

With everyone away, Anneke and I are going to spend some time in the woods nearby, Christoph replied.

I will keep an eye out then, Dietrich said, with smile.

Christoph took Anneke by the hand and led her to the woods. They walked a little ways and Anneke laid down a blanket.

He took off her simple undergarment dress and she stood there naked. They grinned at each other and passionately kissed one another. As they kissed Anneke removed Christoph’s pants. He rubbed her thighs as she slowly unbuttoned his shirt.

When his shirt came off he laid her down on the blanket. Christoph thrust in her slowly at first and then as the pleasure grew stronger he thrust deeper and harder. She moaned loudly and scratched at his back.

In time, the height of his pleasure rose and he moaned out. They laid still and embraced each other. All they could hear was the sound of chirping birds and their heavy breathing.

Christoph! a faraway voice called out.

Sounds like the pack leader, Anneke stated, while sitting up quickly.

Christoph was already getting dress and hurrying over to Velten.

What were you doing in the woods? Velten asked.

Looking at the beautiful sights, he responded, happily.

Anneke came from the woods behind Christoph and Velten smiled knowing what they were doing.

The village nearby has a farm with plenty of braunvieh, Velten said.

How soon do we strike? Christoph asked, happily.

    Later that night

The five male werewolves headed out to the village. When they got there some villagers were out of the houses and patrolling the area.

Stay low to the ground. Do not want to alert the villagers, Velten commanded, sternly to his pack.

We can easily kill all the villagers and be done with the hiding, Symon said.

If other villages catch wind of us there will be a man hunt for us, Velten snapped.

    Christoph glared at Symon.

Do not give me that look, pup, Symon snarled at Christoph.

I am no pup! I am higher rank then you, Christoph snapped.

They growled at each other and position themselves to fight.

Alex, there is something out there towards the woods. Bring your musket, a villager called out.

Velten growled and bit both Symon and Christoph. This is what I did not want to happen!

He led them back towards the rest of the pack. Velten was furious.

This must stop, brother! Velten snapped at Symon.

I should be your second brother and not this pup! Symon yelled out.

Age and blood matters not, he is loyal to his pack and brave. He does not do things with a foolish head! Velten barked.

Symon growled and attack Christoph. They were both in a heated fight. Anneke quickly lunged at Symon, biting him in the back. Symon turned around and Angelika quickly stepped in between them. Christoph bellowed at him.

Dietrich and Marx circled Symon and growled at him.

Should have a mind to banish you, Velten said.

Then do it, Symon growled at his brother.

Velten viciously bit the base of Symon’s tail, the mark of a banished werewolf. Velten and the rest of the pack chased him into the night.

    The next day

Christoph sat on the ground as Anneke cleaned his wounds. They weren’t very deep, just had several scratches throughout his body. Most of it healed through the transformation. She dipped the cloth in a bowl of water and then cleaned off the dried blood.

How are you feeling this morning? Velten asked.

    Not bad, Christoph replied.

Good. Tonight, we will go back to the village, Velten told him.

Christoph nodded to Velten, and then the pack leader left them alone.

Eva walked over to Christoph and Anneke. I want to ask about the coming of age, she said shyly.

    What about it? Christoph asked.

What will happen during the initiation? Eva asked.

Your father or mother never told you? Anneke asked.

Not much, just that it will be painful, Eva replied, looking away.

Not going to lie it is very painful and the transformation is slow, Christoph said, sympathetically.

The whole pack will be there for you. We will surround you, and then you will have the honor of eating your first kill before the pack, Anneke revealed, while getting up to comfort her.

What is going on here? Angelika asked, as she walked over to them with Catarina following her.

Just curious about the initiation that is coming up, Anneke answered.

Ah, I see. Eva take Catarina back to the tent and watch her and your brother, Angelika instructed, while nudging Catarina towards Eva. Anneke and I are going to go fishing.

And of Dietrich and Marx? Christoph asked.

Velten asked them to get more fire wood and any other food they can find, she replied.

Very good, he said, smiling. He got up to kiss his mate before she left with Angelika.

Christoph walked over to Velten, who was watching his pack leave in different direction.

Do you really think I was the best choice or you did not trust Symon? Christoph asked.

I knew you were going to be great when I met you six years ago, Velten replied, as he faced his second in command. I have been a part of another pack take over. There was no fight from the young and they were your age. With you coming at me with a dagger showed me you had great potential. You are a great werewolf, Velten told him, with his hand on Christoph’s shoulder.

Why couldn’t we fish? Marx asked, his brother.

You don’t like chopping trees? Dietrich asked, while using his axe to cut down large branches.

More calming to fish, Marx replied, looking around.

This way we get to let off some aggression, Dietrich said, then handing his brother the axe.

Marx took the axe and hacked away.

I am going to find some apples, Dietrich said.

How many are we going to catch? Anneke asked Angelika.

However, much we can before it gets too dark, Angelika responded. She threw the spear into the water and caught a fish. Finally, she said, looking at Anneke.

The next moon, Eva will be a werewolf. What animal are we going to use for the feast? Anneke asked.

We have to kill a wild animal and I have heard bison in the distance, Angelika said.

Doesn’t seem too dangerous of an animal for Eva to kill? Anneke asked.

It’s the best choice, proves her as a huntress, Angelika mentioned, while catching another fish.

Let us hope she does not have to kill a sheep, Anneke said, looking at Angelika. Like me.

Angelika rubbed Anneke’s back to let her know it was okay.

Dietrich and Marx made their way back to the pack.

Where do you want the fire wood, pack leader? Marx asked.

Lay it down in front of the tent and start the fire, Velten replied.

Dietrich went inside the tent to give the three young some apples.

    Thank you! Felix said, excitedly.

I love apples! Catarina exclaimed, happily.

    Eva happily took an apple.

Christoph was helping Marx start the fire in time for the women to arrive with some fish.

Got one fish for each pup, Angelika stated.

Great, and we will get the brown cattle this time, Velten said, looking at Christoph.

Hoping we can get this cooked before the sun goes down so the young can eat, Anneke said.

Anneke and Angelika started cleaning the fish waiting for the fire to be made.

Do not worry, the young have apples right now, Dietrich told them, as he came out of the tent.

There is still time before the moon comes, Christoph mentioned, looking at the sky.

    That night

This time without hesitation or fighting they made their way to the village and headed quickly and quietly to the farm.

Just as they were planning their attack they heard muffled screams followed by gun shots. The werewolves headed towards the sound and saw vampires attacking some of the villagers.

    Vampires! Velten snarled.

    Vampires? Christoph asked, surprisingly.

Never heard of those vile creatures? Velten asked, puzzled.

He was lucky to never see them before, Dietrich responded.

I have heard of them, just stories, Christoph said, looking at his pack leader.

They disappeared, pack leader, Marx told him.

Either they moved on or spotted us, Velten said.

Just then three vampires reappeared behind the werewolves.

Both immortals went after each other. Christoph just sat there staring in amazement.

Never seen us before? the vampire leader questioned from behind Christoph. You will remember me for centuries.

Christoph turned around and growled at the dead man. The vampire smirked and vanished with the rest of them.

Damn vile creatures! Velten snapped. Quick and grab two cattle and get back to the pack.

Christoph and Dietrich jumped over the fence and each tackled a cow. They all carefully carried the heifers back to the pack and making sure the animal’s blood did not leave a trail. They forgot about the blood in the pen.

    The next day

If vampires are around we must move, Angelika said, with concern.

We cannot! Eva has her initiation tonight and must spend the day tracking and killing a bison, Velten stated, firmly.

Vampires can come by tonight and ruin the whole thing, she said.

They can’t kill us all. Just focus on helping Eva today, Velten said, and then stormed away.

Anneke went to comfort Angelika, while Christoph headed to his pack leader.

She has a point, Velten, Christoph mentioned.

Not now, Christoph, Velten stated, and kept walking away.

Christoph just stood there watching his pack leader walk into the woods.

Dietrich. Come with me, Christoph said.

Christoph led him into the woods.

What are we doing? Dietrich asked.

Helping Eva find a bison for tonight, Christoph told him.

Doesn’t she have to do that herself? Dietrich asked.

If we can locate the herd it will help her out, Christoph said.

The two of them looked around the woods.

Their sense of smell is stronger than normal humans, but not as strong as in the werewolf form.

I believe there in that direction, past the village, Dietrich mention, while looking at animal tracks in the ground.

Let us head back to the pack, Christoph said.

They made it back just in time to see Eva off. Velten gave her a spear to use to kill a bison.

We believe the bison is just past the village, Christoph told the rest of the pack.

Thank you. Let’s go Eva, Velten said.

Velten and Angelika led Eva into the woods.

Christoph, do you think we will be moving again? This is such a good location, Anneke said.

Whatever is best, he said, then held her close.

Why must it be a bison? Eva asked.

Must kill a wild animal to represent you as a wild animal, Angelika replied.

Look for tracks Eva, Velten told her, looking at the ground for hoof marks.

Eva checked the ground for bison tracks. I do not know what they look like.

Enough talking and use your animal senses. You have them just focus, Velten said, firmly.

Eva led the way with her parents behind her, more watching her then helping her.

I think this is the tracks, she mentioned, quietly to herself. I think I hear them over there.

They walked a little way and finally found the small herd of bison.

You are on your own now. Use that spear and kill one, Angelika said.

Eva looked at her parents with fear in her eyes.

She cautiously and slowly headed towards the bison. Her heart was beating faster as she got closer to one that was grazing. Eva sat on the ground waiting for her nerves to settle.

She didn’t know if this long spear was enough to kill it. She was smart enough to bring the dagger that Christoph left in the tent.

She crept a little closer. If she could get close enough when she throws the spear the chances that she makes it is better. Eva took a deep breath then threw the spear into the bison’s thick neck. The giant beast bellowed in pain, causing the other bison to flee.

Eva quickly approached the wounded animal and removed the spear. She tried to get around the bison to stab the animal in the stomach, but the wounded bison kept moving to get his horn into her. She kept moving in a circle hoping to tire the beast, but it seemed to just anger it more.

She used the dagger to slice the animal’s face. The pain in its face gave just enough distraction for Eva to stab the beast in the stomach numerous times. The beast groaned as it went down.

Eva sighed with relief. She stood there catching her breath as the bison took his final.

Ah, she did it, Angelika said, with a sigh of relief too.

The celebration was short lived when a bear approached the tired Eva.

Eva, look out! Velten shouted and ran to his daughter.

Eva couldn’t move. She stared as the bear stood up and roared at her.

Velten grabbed the spear from his daughter and jammed it into the bear’s chest. The bear immediately swiped Velten away. The bear fell and Eva snapped out of her fear and used the dagger to slit the bear’s throat.

She sat down in near tears, more exhausted than ever.

Her mother ran to her. Are you okay? Angelika asked, nervously.

All Eva could do was to nod.

Angelika went over to Velten as he was getting up. She quickly helped him to his feet and they hugged each other tight.

Very good, Eva. I am proud of you, Velten told her, while helping his daughter up.

She tiredly smiled at her father.

Got to get this bison back before the moon comes out, Velten said.

All three of them grabbed a part of the bison and dragged it.

I hope they come by soon, Anneke said, while looking at the sky.

Do you think she, did it? Dietrich asked Christoph.

    Hope so, he responded.

Everyone stood around waiting for the pack leaders and Eva to arrive.

They shortly arrived, dragging the bison. Christoph and Dietrich rushed over to help bring the beast over.

Night will be here soon. Everyone gather around, Velten stated.

Stay in the middle, Eva, Angelika instructed her daughter.

The whole pack circle Eva and the dead bison.

Eva became more nervous about her transformation. She never witnessed anyone in the pack changing before, but she has seen what they look like.

Everyone stood for several minutes before the sun slowly left the sky and the moon took its place. Just as the moon lit up the sky, the older werewolves transformed smoothly.

Eva stood, heavily breathing and heart racing. She nervously removed her clothes. Within time she felt extreme pain all throughout her body. She groaned and cried as she felt her body split and changed. She screamed louder as her body started looking more like a werewolf and less like a human.

She fell to her knees in agony as her body became covered in white fur. Their fur is white with their first transformation and then darkens to grey.

When her transformation was complete she stood up on her newly formed powerful hind legs and howled. The rest of the pack howled with her.

Velten stepped into the circle. You killed it as a human and now you must consume it as an animal. Velten said, gesturing to the bison.

Eva must eat her kill before the pack. She tore into the beast and fed and then the rest of the pack joined in.

    The next day

How much did it hurt? Catarina asked, hesitant of the answer.

The worse pain I have ever felt, Eva answered.

Catarina and Felix looked at each other in horror.

The pain does not last that long, Eva responded.

Both Catarina and Felix still looked very concern for their time to come.

Velten, villages are heading this way, Christoph told him.

Four villagers were walking towards the pack.

You need to keep your wolf self away from our braunvieh, one of the villagers said, sternly.

What makes you think it was us? Velten asked, harshly.

Christoph stood on one the side of Velten and Angelika stood on the other side.

Vampires do not leave blood on the ground like you dogs, the villager said. I don’t know if you are working together or...

We have nothing to do with those creatures! Velten snapped and took a step toward the villager.

Another villager held up his musket towards Velten. Christoph tried to charge them, but Velten position his arm to block him.

You should lower your musket if you don’t want to get hurt, Christoph snarled.

It will be best that you move your dogs away from here. You don’t want us coming back, the villager stated, with hostility. They turned and walked away.

He is going to get it tonight, Marx said, angrily.

We are moving, Velten said, and then headed to the tent to fold it up.

Everyone gathered all they had and followed Velten into the woods.

Where will we go? Angelika asked Velten.

    Somewhere else, he responded.

We should teach the villagers a lesson, Marx mentioned to Dietrich.

You will be banished if you do anything, Marx, Christoph snapped, as he turned around to face him.

    Marx just stared at him.

    Chapter 3: ...And the Death

After a few days of walking through the woods, they found a small meadow and decided to make this their new territory.

Dietrich and Marx set up the tent as Angelika comforted her young. Catarina found comfort with her sister and Christoph.

Velten stood staring at the woods. He seemed lost in thought.

Once the tent was up the two young took shelter for night was approaching.

Do you think we will be safe here? I do not like all this traveling, Anneke said, to Christoph.

Do not fear, my love. You are always safe with me, Christoph told her, gently. He put his hands on her face and then kissed her.

The moon is coming, she mentioned, looking at the sky.

Yes, and our curse comes again, he agreed, as he too looked up to the sky.

Everyone got themselves ready for the transformation and Eva still braced for it, which was a lot smoother now.

    Christoph! Velten called out.

Christoph quickly made his way over to his pack leader.

    What is it, Velten?

I smell them. They are coming for us, Velten said, still staring into the woods.

Human or vampire? Christoph asked. He could hear the concern in his pack leader’s voice.

Vampires, Velten answered, looking at him.

I will fight by your side, Christoph declared, proudly.

No, you must take the women and young to safety. Vampires are known to kill young or kidnap them, Velten told him, worriedly.

I will come back to fight with you, Christoph said.

    Go now! Velten snapped.

Christoph nodded and ran to his mate.
