CHAPTER ONE

The discovery of Desmond

It was Spring time and in the trees beside the big green field, birds of all sizes were building their nests. Little birds were building neat little nests all lined with soft feathers and bigger birds were building lumpy nests with twigs poking out everywhere. They all chirruped and whistled as they worked.

In the field below, the grass sparkled with dew, and tiny flowers gave off their own special smell as woolly lambs hopped and skipped in the patches of sunlight. They nibbled the fresh grass and shouted baa baa to each other because it really was such a bright sunny morning, and everyone was happy.

Well —— not quite everyone !!

Under the hedge at the side of the field there lay what appeared to be an untidy bundle of clothes.

The bundle suddenly began to unwrap itself, first there was a grumpy face with an untidy mop of hair then two arms and two legs and the grumpy face that said That’s the last time I borrow a broomstick to get home from a party, useless thing, dropping me here miles from anywhere.
