    CHAPTER 1

    WHAT IS AN ECLIPSE?

The night sky is full of stars. You can see the moon and sometimes other planets too. They may look still, but these objects are in constant motion. As our Earth moves through space, new objects come into view. Others are blocked.

When one object in space moves into the shadow of another, that’s an eclipse. The second object is no longer totally visible. It is still there. It is just hiding in shadow.
