About this ebook

Jae Cho isn’t very good at games. Whether it’s board games, card games, or anything else, she usually doesn’t have much luck. But when she watches her brother, Dal, playing Castle Crusaders 5, she’s fascinated by the strategy of destroying the opponent’s forces and taking out the enemy’s castle. When Dal rushes off and leaves the game running on his computer, Jae can’t resist the temptation to try playing for herself. Before long she’s hooked on the game and secretly playing against others on her brother’s computer whenever she can. However, she soon realizes that she’s accidentally entered an online esports competition in her brother’s name! Will Dal be angry that Jae has been using his computer and played as him in the qualifying round? Or will he help his little sister dominate the competition at the tournament?

Jake Maddox

Who is Jake Maddox? Athlete, author, world-traveler – or all three? He has surfed in Hawaii, scuba-dived in Australia, and climbed the mountains of Peru and Alaska. His books range from the most popular team sports to outdoor activities to survival adventures and even to auto racing. His exploits have inspired numerous writers to walk in his footsteps – literally! Each of his stories is stamped with teamwork, fair play, and a strong sense of self-worth and discipline. Always a team-player, Maddox realizes it takes more than one man (or woman) to create a book good enough for a young reader. He hopes the lessons learned on the court, field, or arena and the champion sprinter pace of his books can motivate kids to become better athletes and lifelong readers.

    X, E, and F.

Not much to choose from, Jae thought. She glanced up from her cell phone and saw her best friend Bishara watching her while holding her own phone.

Take your time, Bishara said, smiling. It’s not like our lunch period is over in a few minutes.

Aaah! Jae said, shaking her phone in frustration. I can’t take the pressure!

Jae tapped her letter E and dragged it over each word. Even though she knew EFOREST wasn’t a word, she tried it. She also tried ESPONGE, SPONGEE, and EQUAGMIRE.

    None of them worked.

The letter E is supposed to be easy to use in this dumb game, Jae thought, shaking her head. She raised an eyebrow
