About this ebook

Oh, of course. The King's request.

In every vampire's life, there's a story that they themselves will never forget. It's the chronicles, tales of not only their first life's end but also of their second life's beginning. Their final days of being a member of humanity, as they are thrown into a pitiful state of agony that causes them to wish for death, and a realization that it just won't come, no matter how much they should beg. That they are stuck in a constant battle for now and evermore.

These are the Chronicles of Ara Silverblade.

If you're looking around for me during the day, you can find me working at my family's medical clinic in Northeastern Oklahoma. I enjoy working with my family and would not want to be anywhere else. Although I am the referral clerk, seeing my patients throughout the week is encouraging to me. These interactions give my life a great deal of meaning, and I'm incredibly thankful for each day I spend in that tiny office. It also helps that my employers (and parents) are fully supportive of my writing career, and have inspired me every step of the way. Once the work day is finished, the rest of the night is pretty much up in the air. Since I'm an introvert, then you can very likely track me down at my house. I'm either sitting out back playing with my pack. I'm sure you can find photos of them on my blog, but I'll add some here, too. My life wouldn't be worth living if I didn't have these kiddos with me. Along with spending time with my family and writing, I also enjoy reading a good book, hiking, venturing up onto Cavanal Hill, and watching comedies. We writers have to get those creative juices flowing somehow!

    Fresh Fangs - A.D. Anderson

    Prologue

    Internal Struggles

Ara could still remember the first time she preyed upon a human. She had intended to make it quick. But, as painless as possible for the unfortunate soul, her teeth had not sunk into the artery just right. No one exactly teaches you this stuff. The Changers don't give you pointers when they dig their fangs into you, and they sure don't necessarily hang around, after the fact, either.

Wouldn’t it be grand if they did, though?

Within the dark alley, it took a good ten minutes before the prey's heart stopped beating. Even still, the body twitched a lot, the final remnants of the twisted soul trying desperately to escape his already sealed fate. Ara tried to keep it motionless in her clutches. She dug her nails into the being's arms as she drank the strangely warm and decedent fluid. The liquid sensation played within her mouth before trailing down her throat, leaving a luscious trace in its wake.

Seeping into her famished body, the meal was delectable.

Yes, for days after the change, she fought the urge to take an innocent life for as long as Ara could stand. She reminded herself that there had to be other options. That she could just find some animals in the woods. But, as much as she wanted it to, picking off critters didn't satisfy the dark and hellish monster lurking within her. It had grown ravenous. Was wailing out like a siren in the sea, screaming for nourishment unlike any other. Longing for human blood, and human blood alone. It was, finally, too deafening to ignore.

The killing wasn’t so bad. She had done it plenty of times for King Salthran as his self-appointed mercenary. Her day's work was tracking down criminals and ending them in painful, typically vicious ways. However, it was what came before this, drinking their blood, which left Ara feeling conflicted. Not only that, but...honestly, a little nauseous. Gross.

When the time finally came, a switch within the fledgling vampire clicked. Her eyes flashed a brilliant brazened red. She was, officially, one of them. There was no turning back from it. The sight of the blood excited Ara. It fueled her in a way that she had never
