About this ebook

When Calain receives a letter from her mother, summoning her to Realm Honione, the red knight agrees to go, determined to find a home for Zelda, far from the anger of the vengeneful Queen Cilia. Things turn sour, however, when Zelda is injured by an ogre in the Aelwith Wilds. As the Knights of Falcon wait for Zelda to wake, they learn about Calain's family . . . and the siblings she didn't know she had. Don't miss the final chapter of this lesbian romance series!

--

"I shall listen without anger, Mother," Calain said, but her mother only laughed.

"You are my daughter," Lowri said, smiling. "That means you shall likely storm off when I have told you all. Thankfully, I have your sorceress held hostage here, so I know you shall return."

Calain smiled.

--

"Assuming we can even get the infernal horses to go through," said Gweneth, "if we take the portal to Honione, we'll turn up in the middle of the Aelwith Wilds. That's where the old elven ruins are. Popping up there in the middle of bloodthirsty minotaurs and centaurs would be foolhardy!"

"But we have little choice," Selene reminded her. "Either we stay here and perish or we go there and perish."

"You are so very certain of our perishing," said Cassandra, who had a small smile.

--

Excitement leapt in Calain as she realized: it was time for the final step. She was going to be a parent.

    About the Author

    Chapter 1

Once Zelda and the Knights of Falcon had agreed on journeying to Honione, the next thing they needed to decide was how they were going to get there. Realm Honione was far south across the Arinath Sea, past Ellormest and Eriallon both, and thus, it could not be reached on foot. Their only option was to take a ship from Priine or coax their terrified horses through an ancient elven portal, which didn’t seem likely to work.

It was as they were weighing their options that Zelda lamented the fact that she could not cast portal spells between the realms, only portals that opened other dimensions, but when Gweneth reminded her of Arryn’s Summoning Stone, Zelda also admitted she did not wish to summon Arryn again. She did not want to find herself relying too much on the Wolf Knight’s aid and did not want to seem as if she were taking advantage of her friendship.

Arryn is the only friend I have now, Zelda said, and Calain knew she was thinking of Wick. I do not wish to . . . befoul that in any way.

Calain was sitting beside Zelda and put a soothing hand on her shoulder.

They had left Wolf Fortress far behind, fearing that the Rose Guard would converge there upon them, and were camping in the forest of Dark Bloom. They sat around a low fire, finishing their morning meal, as the horses grazed nearby. Having learned from Cassandra that the Rose Guard was upon them, everyone was in low spirits. They had been traveling for days in relative silence, always moving in the direction of the ancient elven temple where the portal stood waiting. It was as if they already knew the portal was their only hope, even though they were apprehensive to approach after Calain had been overrun at one.

Calain was sitting between Zelda and Selene and trying not to think of the reason they were going to Honione in particular. Her mother’s letter was still in her satchel, rolled up and slightly crumpled, and at night when no one was looking, she took it out and read it again and again. She had not seen her mother since she was eleven. Why now, after all this time, had she chosen to reach out? Because Calain was in danger? Did she truly think she could have saved her? Her mother was a peasant, she was no one! And yet, she had been willing to venture all the way to Alleren to speak for
