Zune is an ancient cyborg that was built one thousand years ago to protect. When Xian is saved by her from a giant destruction unit, they quickly fall into an intense sexual relationship. "What is so amusing?"     "You," said Zune, "and your gentle heart. Twenty-three years in the ruins," she went on, ignoring it when Xian blushed, "and you never let life here harden you, even after the robots killed your family, even after all you have suffered, you didn't let it make you distant and cold. . . Like me."     Xian was still blushing hard but looked Zune directly in the eye as she said, "You are not cold! No one ever . . . k-kissed me the way you have."      It was Zune's turn to be embarrassed.   -- "No," said Zune at once. She was sitting with her knees wide, her elbows resting on them as she leaned toward the fire, and Xian thought the position made her seem broody and grim. "It is my job to protect people. If Micro were being attacked by a giant Xubertron, I'd gladly step in. But instead, we are running errands, fetching a battery from across the sector, and putting you at great risk by--"    Xian suddenly kissed Zune. She couldn't help it: Zune was so cute when she was worried about her.   -- Blue eyes softening, Zune knelt before Xian, hesitated, and touched her cheek. It was warm. So warm. So many parts of Zune were icy metal, she had nearly forgotten what it felt like, the warmth of skin. Even the parts of her that were still human flesh had a cold layer beneath that was unpleasant, stiff. Xian was the first woman she had touched in one thousand years, and doing so always left an ache in her.

After having been attacked by the mysterious infiltration unit, Zune awakes damaged and broken and sets out to repair her cybernetics. While fumbling through old memories and rediscovering her past, Zune realizes she was married in her life before becoming a cyborg. Xian tries to remain supportive, even as it becomes clear that Zune's wife might still be alive. Don't miss the second installment of this lesbian romance series!    -- Zune placed a grateful hand over Xian's, thinking that in some strange, twisted way, she did not regret the past if it meant eventually meeting Xian.  "Every choice I ever made led me to you," she said, looking up at Xian. "I regret nothing."    Xian's cheeks flamed a little. "S-Should we continue?" she said, now flustered.    -- "Do you plan to produce offspring?" Micro asked nonchalantly.    Xian was too taken aback to immediately respond. "What? Why?" was all she managed.     "You are healthy and fertile," said Micro, "and Zune is strong and a suitable protector and provider. It is how mammals choose life mates, is it not?"    "We're both women, for fuck's sake," said Xian with a weak laugh. "We can't have kids."    --   Xian was glaring at Syphon, but she looked past the little robot and felt relief wash over her: Zune had flipped to her feet. Xian's eyes went back to Syphon, bright with triumph as she said, "My girlfriend is gonna kick your ass!"    Syphon's narrowed eyes widened in shock and her head whirled around in time to take an orange laser blade to the face.

Determined to liberate her wife from cryostasis, Zune heads to Arcana 7, the human settlement that supposedly has a cure for Zoe's illness. While she is away, Xian makes friends with Super, a giant Megatron who believes the meaning of life is what each individual chooses to make it. Whlie Xian is off debating philosphy with robots, Zune crosses paths with a wicked cyborg raider, who wants her Eternity chip and will stop at nothing to get it. Since finding Zoe 2, the sudden cold, hard reality had hit her that Xian was a pure human, which meant she did not have cybernetics . . .which meant she would live a very brief life and then she would die.     In the days before the war, humans had lived well to five hundred years and beyond. Now humans could barely make it to twenty before they were killed by a destruction unit, and those that made it to old age only saw their sixties before they perished due to lack of clean water and proper nutrition. Those in the settlements lived the longest, naturally.    -- Zune didn't answer. Xian looked up and went still: Zune's blue eyes were looking down at her, glinting with hunger in the soft, blue light of the heat lamp. Xian's heart skipped a beat. Plenty of women had desired her, but only Zune had ever looked at her with such hard longing. She supposed it had been a long time since Zoe. Perhaps the cyborg had needs after all.     -- Xian remembered not understanding, watching in a sort of sad confusion, wondering why her parents were going into the earth. When she asked, Xy had lifted her onto her hip and told her that their parents were sleeping and would never wake. "They're sleeping, Xian. Lay off me with the q-questions," Xy had said, tears in her eyes. "They're sleeping . . ."    -- "What do you want with her?" Zune demanded.    "Her Eternity chip, obviously, you zoinkhead. The ancients didn't build their soldiers to think, just take orders, apparently," said the woman derisively. "I want my bio processes to stop so I can live forever. Only trouble is, an Eternity chip can only be found on a pre-war cyborg, and now I've got two of them standing in front of me." She pulled a laser sword from her hip with a flourish and a red beam extended from it. "Lucky me." 

Having fought against the robots in the World of Two Worlds, it is brought to Zune's attention that she still harbors a prejudice against robots. Her views are challenged by her enouncters with different robots in the Sphere, until she realizes that the world-ending war would not have happened if the sentience of robots had been respected by humans. Don't miss the fourth installment of this lesbian romance series!   -- They stood in happy silence for a time, Zune simply holding Xian tight in her arms. Then Xian's heart skipped a beat when Zune gently lifted her chin.    "I need to see your eyes before I go," Zune said, looking down Xian with a soft affection that flustered her.     Xian managed a quivering smile. "Why did you have to be so damn sweet? It'd be easier to lose you if you were an asshole."    Zune gave a deep chuckle.   -- "Yes, you!" cried Xian. "You knew Syphon was bad, but you stayed with her psychotic ass anyway. How is that not emotional? How is that logical or rational?"     "All right," relented Super, her great eye looking away again. "To pretend my kind were soulless and had no feelings would make me as blind as your Zune. I suppose we aren't so different from humans after all."    -- Super simulated a sigh. "Then . . . be careful, Xian. And please return. You are the first friend I have had in one thousand years. I would be a little sorry to lose you."     "A little sorry," laughed Xian. "Well, I guess it's better than 'not sorry at all.'"    -- Zune felt her face getting hot. "That's not why I didn't shoot!"     "Sure, it isn't," laughed the service unit. She walked forward, her stiffly bent arms and narrow waist moving like a plastic doll. She even walked on her toes. "So what is it you want from me? A good time? I've still got my synthetic tongue. Might be a little rusty at it, but . . ." She glanced over Zune lustily, and now that she was closer, Zune could see that her glass eyes were bright blue and closely resembled a human's.      Zune took an awkward step back. "No, no. I'm spoken for."  

After discovering an Eternity chip in Vorzon, Xian is kidnapped by the cyborg raider, Roz, and held hostage, with the intention that Zune will come to rescue her, indirectly bringing Roz a second Eternity chip. Don't miss the fifth installment of this lesbian romance series!   -- Zune was still slamming Roz against the wall, still slowly breaking her neck with a cold, narrow-eyed satisfaction that was horrifying, and for several seconds, Xian couldn't move as she stood there covering her bare breasts: she had never imagined Zune capable of such jealousy and rage.     -- "Xian isn't here," Super said abruptly.    Zune staggered to halt, craning her neck back to look at the giant robot's distant face. "What, no 'hello'?" she called. "No 'nice to see you'?"    Super paused and said, "Hello, then, Zune. I didn't think you were one for pleasantries."    "Normally, I'm not," Zune admitted. "I'm trying to be less of an asshole."    "An admirable endeavor," said Super, amused.    -- Xian touched a sympathetic hand to Zune's muscly arm. "It's not as if you did it on purpose! And I l-love you—" Zune looked quickly down at Xian, and Xian's heart skipped a beat from the intensity of her blue eyes. "I'd do anything for you," Xian plunged on bravely. "And I you," Zune said, gently pinching Xian's chin. The blue eyes were still intense, and Xian could tell from the way that they lingered on her lips that Zune wanted to kiss her. Instead of kissing Xian, however, Zune whispered, "Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it. Mount an Eternity chip on you? Fine. Remove my own Eternity chip? As you wish. I have come to realize that the thought of losing your love frightens me more than anything, even my own mortality."
