How long has the Great Event been?
Akami asked. His voice echoed throughout the cave.
For a while he had been thinking and talking to himself, but at this point in his reasoning he expressed his thoughts aloud.
Instantly everyone else stopped and looked towards him. They looked at him inquisitively and, seeing that it was not a danger, they continued their journey.
It was unusual to hear more than just their footsteps in the cavern. They usually worked in silence trying to feel the earth. It was the routine they maintained in these searches: they walked in a group advancing towards the interior of the mountain and went into the bowels until they found something. They had started weeks ago, and the road traveled was getting longer and the feeling of confinement was more overwhelming. The task itself was monotonous and boring, and this time in particular, the discomfort began to weigh on them beyond the physical. Going into those damp dark caverns didn't help keep your spirits up.
That morning, Akami was starting to hear things inside his head after a long time: murmurs, voices whispering about facts... Facts of a past time, from a forgotten life, a life whose memories, weak but persistent, pushed in his mind to come to light. And from there the question arose. He didn't even know what it meant: what event? why was important? what had happened?
His own voice added to these questions, others less strange questions: how long had he lived with the omis? How long had he awakened from his long sleep?
Akami was not one of them. Those friendly beings were nothing like him. He didn't know who he was, nor did he know who those creatures were. In his mind he called them omis because they were always singing a song with that sound: ommm, ommm...
Those beings were nothing like him physically. The tallest of them only reached the height of his shoulders. Their heads were disproportionately large compared to the rest of the body and, on their faces, the eyes, mouth and nose were large and occupied almost the entire face, which was of an elongated rhomboid shape, and on whose sides two huge ears were glimpsed between a kind of thick hair. This surrounded their entire heads and resembled hanging lianas. They wore them framing an always kind countenance. The rest of the body was short and graceful limbs, but of appreciable robustness.
Akami didn't remember anything, he had simply woken up one day from a long sleep among those who had found and cared for him while he slept. He was confused and it took a while to get his head in order. And yet, after months of trying to remember who he was, just wondering in his mind who he was caused him excruciating pain. The first few times he had tried with all his might and that had led to exhaustion. The effort prostrated him for days until he recovered. After a few attempts, he gave up. As the days went by, he got used to his reality and began to stop thinking.
The omis treated him very well. They were simple and pure creatures. They had cared for and fed him patiently, helped him regain his strength, and with their gentle ways, appeased his anguish and helped regain his mental state.
They had a very close contact with Nature and communicated both by sounds and gestures. It was very nice to observe them interacting in their community, and that prevailing peace and harmony had also favored Akami's recovery.
Since he had stopped thinking, Akami went hiking with the explorers. At first, he did it to regain his physical condition and stay busy. As the days passed, he also felt indebted to his hosts and wanted to help them with their tasks. Then, he discovered that being active served him well for a good mood. Moving felt good to him. The movement made him feel less sad and lost, more in touch with something of his own.
He did not understand what the omis were looking for, but they carried him whenever they could in their raids. It seemed that it brought them luck. When Akami went with them they always found something. He didn't know if it was necessarily what they were looking for, but that was the least important. They felt lucky to have him and he was happy to be able to help them.
Something unusual was happening today. The voices in his head became more and more insistent with the passing of the hours and, as they entered the interior of the cavern they were exploring, louder and more continuous.
Suddenly, Akami stops. The voices are now totally clear and the message is repeated over and over again non-stop: "You must find the others! You must look for them! Go find the others! The others! ».
Akami turns his head and his gaze rests on his left hand, leaning on the wall. He feels his heartbeat echoing in his hand. But... It's not his heartbeat, it's something else. Something hits from within the earth! A faint glow around his fingers catches the attention of the omis, who begin to celebrate the discovery of the day.
Farewell
Finally, the day of departure arrived. It seemed as if his hosts didn't want to let him go, delaying the farewell always a little longer. However, the celebrations in his honor had happened with total joy and concord.
At least six days had passed since that of the last great discovery. The place where Akami leaned his hand turned out to be the cradle of a very bright transparent crystal, the length of the size of his hand. Since Akami was going out with the explorers they had found four stones. The first was a small one of an intense dark green color; then, a rose quartz crystal; the third was a perfect sphere of a soft violet and, finally, that elongated transparent crystal with the ends in the form of multi-sided pyramids.
At first, Akami believed that stones were a precious commodity for the Omis and that they went out to explore in their search. But now he stood under the arch at the beginning of a tunnel —at the mouth of the entrance that had been discovered by extracting the glass from the cave wall—holding the four stones in his hands.
After days of singing, dancing and laughing, the omis escorted Akami to the cavern and at the entrance of the tunnel, in a solemn ceremony, they gave him the stones, as well as food and water for his journey.
It was time for the farewell. From that point, and through that opening portal, Akami would begin his journey. He had to find the others, others like him supposed, and his friends had not been able to clarify that mystery. Although he asked them, he did not know if they knew more beings like him, but they had understood that he had to leave.
There was the whole group of explorers, the ones who had accompanied him every time they went out on his strange excursions. Two of the elders of the community had joined the party. They had participated in the festivities and had walked to the front of the procession that accompanied Akami to the end. The rest of the community had dismissed him on the edges of the village waving garlands of flowers and singing.
Akami broke through the tunnel entrance. There was light in the background. It was like a long, dark worm, but even so, there was a flashing light at the end that seemed to send a message with some secret code.
Akami had learned to communicate with gestures with the omis, although he sometimes believed that they could read his mind. During the first days of his arrival, while he was still very weak, he was fed and groomed even before he could ask for it, almost before he could know he needed it.
He only had feelings of gratitude for these beings. He bowed as a last farewell, clasping his hands on his chest and bowing his head, sending from his heart a huge thank you that wanted to envelop all of them. To his surprise, everyone imitated his greeting and then a warmth completely enveloped him coming from all hearts at once. It was a moment of such joy that Akami forgot for a moment that he didn't know who he was, he forgot that he didn't remember anything about his life, nor how he had gotten there. He forgot that it hurt to think and smiled.
A-thorus turned his gaze to the inside of the cavern.
Only A-thira remained of the participants in the farewell entourage. She was looking towards the opening, which had closed again when the stranger pierced it.
I think our friend has found his way.
There was almost no light left in the cavern and A-thorus communicated through sounds so that A-thira would understand.
Everyone does, sooner or later,
said the old lady.
The stranger had appeared exactly a year ago. A stormy night as they had not lived for a long time, the lightnings illuminating the sky for hours and the feeling in the air of extraordinary events taking place. In the sacred place where in past ages other beings had been embodied, that stranger appeared with the last lightning.
A-thorus and A-thira stood by the great stone praying. They had felt the call of necessity from the stone very early that day. They had arranged themselves in body fasting and, in spirit, praying from dawn.
At the time of the first appearance of the being the physical process was not completed, they only saw as in a hologram an image of light, a light blue almost bright as sky. It seemed as if a piece of heaven wanted to materialize.
The two elders then tried to unite their energy fields to help the entity materialize itself, giving it the strength to take a way of life on that plane. Little by little, small, white feet were formed. Then, slowly, the rest of the body appeared: legs, trunk, arms, head. Medium length and thin limbs and a thin but slender torso. Her entire skin turned a light tan color.
The body seemed to correspond to a female being in adulthood. Beautiful facial features framed large dark and slightly elongated eyes, a small flattened nose, and a soft mouth with thin lips but a bright red. Her hair short to the shoulders, smooth and an intense black almost bluish.
There was very little left to finish the process. Suddenly, the whole picture flickered three times and began to fade. The new being had her eyes wide open, a sign of an intense surprise that she immediately replaced with an expression of amazement, which was followed by a flash of certainty and the body disappeared completely.
In a matter of seconds it reappeared, now in a younger version, and the features were adjusted and underwent a transformation. The cheekbones of his face were marked at sharper angles, the muscles of the whole body were toned, and the limbs were strengthened. The hair was shortened by a span, but the
