About this ebook

A war song. An enemy. Only one way out.

A haunting magical melody draws Queen Simone out of the Faery Realm and into the human world. The song triggers violence in the streets, endangering innocents—including humans she loves. All signs point to a fae source.

Can Simone find the source of the music? Can she stop it before it kills?

A standalone story in the Faery Chronicles series, Street Song explores the depths of rage—and the mysteries of the heart.

Leslie Claire Walker

Leslie grew up among the lush bayous of southeast Texas and currently lives in the spectacularly green Pacific Northwest with ornery cats, two harps, and too many fantasy novels to count. She takes her inspiration from the dark beauty of the city, the power of myth, and music ranging from Celtic harp to heavy metal. Even in the darkest of her tales, a spark lights the way. Leslie Claire Walker is the author of the young adult contemporary fantasy series The Faery Chronicles, including the novels HUNT, DEMON, and FAERY. Her urban fantasy series, The Soul Forge, launched in in 2016 with NIGHT AWAKENS.

    Street Song

THE LAST OF THE JANUARY cold front had faded, leaving Houston, Texas in its natural state—air warm and pregnant with humidity that blew in from the Gulf of Mexico, sweet taste of brine on the breeze. Just standing in it under the light of a full moon conjured a marrow-deep homesickness in me .

I missed this world with a depth and power that shook me to my core. I’d been dreaming of it in full color detail, tasting and smelling and feeling, but unable to touch. Wishing with all my once-human heart to be here. And now I was.

The yellow school bus I’d once lived in still crouched at the back of a narrow strip of concrete between red brick warehouses. Strings of fairy lights still glittered in its open windows. I used to burn patchouli incense in the bus, but the kid, Merry, who’d taken over the place seemed to have a different preference. And instead of using the bus as their exclusive home base, Merry had struck a deal with my partner, the Faery King, and the local magical law to turn it into a sanctuary for kids who’d newly come into their magic.

A good thing. A necessary thing. It made my heart sing.

I didn’t knock on the door to say hello, although I’d be welcome. I hadn’t slipped into the human world to visit. I’d come with another purpose entirely.

    The song.

I’d heard it in my dreams, a discordant tune that set my teeth on edge and raised my hackles. The song had been born in Faery. That much, I knew. On the night I’d been formally crowned the Faery Queen, the old fae doing the honors had passed a sword to
