Why Create A Health and Happiness Handbook?
This handbook and the accompanying companion journal are purposefully designed to give you, the reader, specific tools, and information to help create meaningful, and solution-focused changes to your life.
In my daily work I help clients uncover their potential to be all that they can be. Assisting them to commence a journey of self-discovery through mindful awareness begins with identifying the ineffective practices that have been holding them back.
The aim of this handbook is to demonstrate scientifically-based techniques to create positive change in your life; by overcoming the mechanisms that have been responsible for keeping you stuck in old self-defeating patterns and routines, and by providing effective therapeutic tools and techniques, with which to connect to your inner potential to heal both mind and body.
Many physical and emotional issues and health concerns, such as anxiety, depression and even inflammation, to name a few, can be markedly improved just by looking at the patterns and habits you are unwittingly creating with your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and repetitive behaviours each and every day.
The key word here is ‘unwittingly’. This statement is not about blame; it is about taking responsibility. When you begin to entertain the concept that you have more influence over your immediate outcomes than you ever dreamed possible, you become empowered to create potent changes in your life.
This is your birthright, your potential, your choice.
I wonder if you have ever noticed that those same worrying or upsetting thoughts that you focus on, or ruminate over last thing at night, the ones that are probably preventing a good night’s sleep, are often the very same thoughts and feelings that immediately spring to mind the moment you open your eyes in the morning. The truth is, when you continue to re-run unhelpful programs focusing on yesterday’s problems, issues, or mistakes, you are effectively dragging yesterday, with all its limitations and disappointments, into today, recreating it in this moment when none of it is probably happening.
As a mental health practitioner and advocate, I find myself very often repeating the same therapeutic advice. No matter what the presenting issues have been, most clients have found that by making small but significant changes to their daily practices, in the ways described in this handbook, they have finally taken back the control of their lives.
The practices described within the pages of this handbook are simple, yet complex at the same time. Practices that are based on the positive benefits of cognitive therapies, gratitude, and mindfulness mixed with a touch of physiology, neuroplasticity, epigenetics and a sprinkle of quantum physics. Together these have been shown to be helpful in changing our mindset and improving our physical state of wellbeing, but please, don’t be afraid of these terms. Your body already knows what to do, you just have to start giving it a different set of instructions. This is the gift you were meant to give to yourself, to create the life you choose to live.
I have personally used these techniques and have changed my life in many powerful ways; healing both mind and body, and I have seen many others do the same. On my own journey I have learned a great deal about what works and what doesn’t, when it comes
