CHAPTER ONE (Sammy)

Feeling the warmth of the sun on her face, Cindy opens her eyes to sunshine and blue skies outside her window. She stretches, then pats the bed, thump-thump, with the palm of her hand.

I am lying in my bed doing my morning stretches too. First I stretch my front legs, then my back legs. I stand and stretch way-down, crossing my paws in front of me. Ahh...this feels good.

When I hear another thump-thump above me, I leap onto Cindy’s bed. Wagging my tail and panting happily, I flop down and give her a lick on her face.

Good morning, Sammy. Cindy reaches out to give me a big morning hug. I roll over and stretch all four legs as high as I can while Cindy rubs my belly. I love my Cindy and I love when she rubs my belly. I stretch even more, then turn over to look at her.

Sammy, are you ready to eat and begin our day?

I wag my tail and pant, Uh-huh. Yep, I’m ready. Let’s go! Let’s go! I jump off the bed, turn my head and look up. C’mon, c’mon! My whole body is wiggle-wagging.

Cindy laughs as she puts her slippers on and pats across the floor. Okay buddy, let’s go downstairs to get our breakfast.

I run down the stairs ahead of Cindy because she does not need me to guide her when we are in our house. I bet if you closed your eyes and put your hands out in front of you, you could find your way around your house too! As long as no one moves anything, you could even find all the things you have in your bedroom. You can probably figure out which clothes are in your closet by touching them, but you might have difficulty if you have two items that are the same, but with different colors, such as shirts, pants or socks.

Here you go my friend, Cindy says as she places my bowl on the floor with my dry dog kibble. I eat one cup of kibble two times a day. Yum! I eat one kibble at a time so I can enjoy the flavor and make it last longer. Some dogs eat so fast that they do not even get to taste the flavor. Not me, I enjoy every bite.
