    Chapter 1

    Daniel

W ell it’s good to see you’ve come back from your honeymoon, Luca, how did it go? No, don’t answer that. I can tell by that large grin covering your face. Did you know that you have bite marks on your neck? I circled his desk and leaned over to inspect the marks. Good lord man, is that conservative fickle boy of yours a vampire?

Luca swatted my hand away, narrowed his eyes, and barked, Sit.

You’re getting good at that commanding voice. Does Ethan listen when you use that tone on him? You can’t fool me. I know you for that easy-going bear that you are. Now if I had—

"Just who are you trying to fool, Daniel. We’ve known each other far too long, and thank God our young men don’t know what we’re really like. Just two men looking for love and afraid of being rejected."

Speak for yourself, Luca. I’ve been rejected once, and that’ll never happen again. I don’t open myself up to being a sucker for anyone. Luca raised an amused eyebrow and chuckled.

    That’s not what I heard.

Standing at his desk I leaned in, What did you hear? Looking at you with your neck black and blue, you’re going to need a higher collar if you continue doing whatever you’re doing. You would think that you didn’t have time to engage in the petty goings on and water-cooler gossip, not with Ethan sucking on your neck.

    He’s my husband now.

Whatever. If you’d been taking care of that young man of yours properly, he’d have the bruises and not you. I sat down in front of Luca, and aimed an amused smile his way. I needed him to get off the topic of me.

I heard you’ve been back a week, but you didn’t call me and say anything, or ask me how I’d managed with all this when you left it undone, and that partner of yours, Wild Bill, what is he good for? He doesn’t do anything around here, but go out to dinner with clients. And lately he hasn’t even done that. He sends them to me, and between the law firm, and my club, I haven’t had a life. You know, Lou, it would have been good if you’d given me the consideration of calling me and telling me you were back. Yet you found time to listen to company gossip. I’ve got a life you know.

If it makes you feel better, it wasn’t me who was discussing your young man Hayden. Hayden is friends with Ethan and he called him for advice.

Advice? Advice. Ethan shouldn’t give Hayden advice. It interferes with my plans. This was news to me. Why would he want Ethan’s advice? Besides, anything Ethan would tell him would be poison and detrimental to my plans for Hayden.

Your plans for that young man? He must have felt that he needed advice, and if he’d come to me, and you and I are friends, I’d have had to tell him that you’re too mature for him, way above his pay grade, and to fool around with you would be disastrous, Lou said with a chuckle. It’s a good thing for you he didn’t come to me first.

You can’t interfere with our special relationship—

So that’s what you call it now. I thought you were grooming him for your club, which isn’t what Hayden wants or needs. He’s looking for a man to guide him and love him, not punish him or let other men abuse him.

I would never do that to Hayden. I just told him that I wanted him to have an experience before I’d touch him. I didn’t mean that. Didn’t I tell you I thought I loved him, but it’s not working out the way I’d planned.

Plans like yours seldom do, Luca murmured.

Before Luca began working on his computer, he’d pulled out his reading glasses from his top pocket and put them on, then he glanced over at me. There’s something called life. You can’t plan everything in life. Then his brow furrowed as he glanced over to me and grumbled. What’s wrong with you? You look all worn out.

I’ve been having a hard time, I admitted.

Weren’t you supposed to be working for a change and not spending night and day at your Club? He complained, then looking back at his computer screen.

That was the plan, but it didn’t work out that way—

You think? Lou growled narrowing his eyes.

I got all caught up with Hayden.

Hayden the virgin, and now he’s no longer one, and he’s not what you thought he was? Did he lie to you when you strapped on one of those wheels at Leather Bound?

You’ve got it all wrong. I’ve been lying about him. I didn’t want anyone to have him. I wanted to keep him for myself, but I couldn’t bring myself to make him my submissive. So I let him go, and now he comes to the club, taunts me with his new boyfriend. He wants a relationship, just not the kind I offered him.

"And as I’ve said before, he doesn’t want to be handcuffed to a bed every night, and for you to order him around. When they’re young men, Daniel, they don’t know what they want until you’ve introduce it to them. You can’t have a relationship when you both want different things. He wants to be cared for and respected. You want what you want. It seems those
