Necessity of Fresh Anointing

We are living in the last days, the days many Christians have become cold and indifferent concerning the things of God. Many ministers who were once powerfully anointed, like Samson, suddenly discover the power has left them because of sin. All they have left is a form of shaking", and physical display of strength. The power and freshness of the Holy Ghost are no longer in their lives. Such people's lives can be likened to a rotating ceiling fan propelled by electrical energy, which when the switch is off, can rotate before finally coming to a stop.

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

I know of a minister, whom the Lord was using effectively in the area of liberating people from demonic torment and influence, in the early 80s, miracles, and revelation gifts of the word of knowledge and discerning of spirits manifested unhindered in his ministry, but today, he is unheard of because of the sin of immorality. His spiritual eyes seem to have been put out: he has lost the vision of ministry, and consequently is being left in spiritual Egypt to grind.

We need a fresh anointing in order to obey the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. Luke 12:35 says, let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning.

The only surest way to keep the light of God resident in us burning is to be daily, on continuous basis, anointed with fresh oil.

There are three states of a battery life, namely, fully charged state, half discharged state and completely discharged state. Only few believers are in fully charged states. These are believers that endeavor to keep the light of God in them burning, through receiving the fresh anointing of God's Spirit. They experience God's presence on a daily basis and that presence positions them beyond defeat. Have you ever seen hot prepared food that is emitting smoke and flies come to perch on it? I don't happen. When you are freshly anointed, you WII always rise above all satanic influences. Beloved, this is God's ultimate plan and purpose concerning you. Romans 12:11 says:

Be not slothful in business, but fervent in spirit serving the Lord.

That means be aglow in the Spirit serving the Lord.

So many Christians are in half discharged state; their lives oscillate between victory and defeat. We would call them thermometer Christians. Depending on the environment they find themselves, their spiritual temperature reads high or low. If their church is having a program their spiritual temperature will read high, but not quite long after the program it goes down low.

The last group of believers are in completely discharged state. There is no clear distinction between these Christians' lives and unbelievers. They have become susceptible to sin and Satan's manipulations; to this set of believers, Christ is saying to you, awake thou that sleepest, arise from the dead and CHRIST will give you light (Ephesians 5:14).

It is therefore imperative to learn the secrets of how to receive the fresh anointing of God's Spirit on a daily basis.

If there is any word that is synonymous in scripture with the anointing, it is oil. They are linked not just symbolically but spiritually. Most car owners know that if they drive too many miles without changing the oil in their cars, the oil loses its usefulness as a lubricant and detergent for the engine. The primary function of the motor oil is to clean out impurities in the engine, dirt and microscopic pieces of metal and material, thus keeping it running smoothly. Oil also reduces friction between two moving parts in the engine.

Any one that uses the same oil in his car for a long time without changing it will experience an engine knock. Having the oil in your car changed regularly is a preventive maintenance measure. Spiritually speaking, there are many people who received the Holy Ghost many years ago, but they have not had an oil change; they have lost the freshness of the power of God's Spirit.

In the natural, the under mentioned things are characteristics of oil and we should be careful lest these negative defects affect us spiritually:

1. Oil evaporates if not replenished. If you leave oil by

itself in an open space for a long time it will totally disappear. Many Christians today are operating with past anointing. I know a minister whom God used when he initially got the fire of God's Spirit, to raise the dead, but now, it is no longer so. He is living in the past anointing. Anywhere he goes he keeps repeating the same testimony that many people have heard.

2. Oil leaks if there is a hole in the vessel no matter how

small the hole may be. It may be undetected with our natural eyes but once there is a crack, the ointment will find it and will leak out. Some of us have lost the anointing of God's Spirit through talkativeness. Someone said that the words a person speaks on daily basis could cover eighty leaves of an exercise book.

3. The viscosity of oil becomes reduced when it is

subjected to pressure. Today believers all over the world are subjected to all kinds of pressures - academic, financial, family, job pressures, and above all spiritual pressures. You will agree with me that the activities of the devil together with all his cohorts are increasing tremendously in our time. There is revival of occultism. Sometime ago, a brother boarded an aeroplane heading to one of the state capitals in the United States of America. When the plane was airborne, he discovered that the next passenger seating by his side was praying. He thanked God in his heart for giving him a Christian to travel with. When the man finished praying, the brother decided to initiate a discussion with him by asking him whether he was a Christian. The reply the man gave startled the brother. He said no, and the brother asked him to whom he was praying to then. He said to Satan. One of my prayer points he continued, is for Satan and his demons to divide Christian homes.
