    Fiction

    Chapter One . Jake's Boat

'Hi there , can we come onboard, this was our boat.'

Jake looks down and surveys five girls in their early to mid teens.

'You've left something, there's a lot of cupboards full of belongings to the previous owner, now discarded as she said she's no use for them.'

'I'm Marigold, this is my sister Jezebel, and cousins, Miranda, Mary and Michelle.'

'A lot of M's no doubt you use your middle names a lot, check the cupboards out, or rather lockers as its boat, no doubt you had cabins, I believe up front as there seems to be evidence of the belongings to young females.'

    'That's correct.'

'I take it you know your way onboard, that companionway just pulls down, I'm in the stern saloon, I'd just been to the shop for provisions hence being on deck, so have a good root through, there are some carriers in the dining saloon and in the pilot house.

Jake goes back down below and the girls come onboard and go forward and down the front hatch . Some hours later he makes his way to the galley, makes himself a drink and goes back to the stern saloon, surmising as he goes for he's wrapped up in chapter of a book he's getting together, still in its framework and mapping out stage and the odd chapter often leapt into his mind to be used later so he must get it down. There was no evidence or sound of girls onboard so they must have left. He'd not met the previous owner.

He's about to turn in at midnight when he hears a call from the pontoon the boat is tied up to and sees a flashlight being pointed at the portholes . He goes on deck and sees two policewomen on the pontoon.

'You've had a visit from five girls?'

    'I did, that was earlier.'

'Can we check to see if they're still here.'

'Sure, down the front hatch as they'll be in the forward cabins if they're still onboard, late though and there's not a sound from them if they are.'

'We need to check, they're missing.'

'More mislaid or displaced, five rarely go missing at once, you've torches so no need for deck lights, to find me if you need go into the pilot house and go down to the stern.'

Jake returns below.  Five minutes later, the two police women come through.

'They're up front and sound asleep in some cabins, so we'll leave them where they are if that's okay.'

'Why not, they're obviously attached to the vessel, where's the parents.'

'Both sets are dead so gran has them, but after her husband died the money has become tight.'

'Unusual as the widow normal inherits all free of tax till she passes away, hence men of wealth marrying younger women so there's another twenty five years to sort out all the affairs and set up trusts, I've never met this gran who owned the boat we're on.'

'Nor have we, glamorous and still very desirable according to reports and there's several around the same age who hang out together.'

'Thanks for the warning, confirmed Batchelor so no pretty grandmas for me. They'll have the art of seduction well practised if that's there's entertainment in life, I expect their EX now deceased husbands were in fact were senior to them by a number of years.'

'You assume correctly, unfortunately there will be no avoiding them now.'

'Send in the infantry in advance of the cavalry,

    'A pun on words?'

'Infants to infantry, I suppose it could be regarded as
