Your values are what give your work meaning, and they are what make it special. They are the foundation of your work. Before you take a job or start a company, begin by knowing your values.

The two types of core values are foundational and organizational. Founding teams define the soul of a company, while organizational values are developed once people are in the door. They are the rules that govern the expected behaviors required for day-to-day collaborations to run smoothly.

The company’s foundational values are derived from the team. The company’s organizational values are formed when you bring people together, and they emerge by consensus. They evolve more frequently as new team members come and go.
