About this ebook

I don't require a lot: Pay up, Follow the rules, Keep your mouth shut. Do this and we're golden. Don't and you'll find out why I'm the top enforcer of the Kuznetsov Bratva.

We've got no problems until I have a big problem: Katiya Baranov, the daughter of our enemy. The daughter of someone who did not shut up and pay up. Someone in the Baranov family has a big mouth. Now, she belongs to the Kuznetsov, who've "given" her to me as insurance. What will I do with this unwilling wife, especially when her family comes gunning for me? What will I do with her since I'm sure she'd rather cut my throat than submit to this marriage?

For both our sakes, I'd better ensure that we're seeing eye to eye and heart to heart soon because when the enemy comes calling the family motto comes to bear: Nobody But Us. Katiya must be one of us or die, taking my future with her.

    Chapter One

    ~ Yuri Xarya ~

    I hated blood.

Not that I was averse to drawing it when necessary, but I was not a fan. This guy, Egor Petrov, a low-level soldier and asshole for the Baranov family, had been a whiney bleeder.

Wiping my hands on a cloth, removing the crimson stain from the interrogation, I jerked my chin toward my men. They understood without words that they needed to take out the trash. Normally, we’d make sure he’d never be found, but this one would be left right at the Baranov doorstep, a message that they’d started a war that the Kuznetsov Bratva would finish.

Walking away, I kept a blank face, not allowing my distaste at the smell of blood and piss from Petrov to show on my face. Though common and familiar, the coppery tang from the bleed still hung heavy in the air and was practically thick enough to taste.

I left the mess to my men. I was the top enforcer for Ivan Kuznetsov, and I had a mission. Our enemy had turned on our men, cutting them down during a deal I’d advised Ivan not to take. He had, but rather than a told you so, I led the charge in wiping out every member of our enemy’s family. We’d coexisted side by side for too long as uneasy adversaries. The unspoken agreement had lain between us: if neither of us crossed the line, we were good.

They had crossed the line, though, and we weren’t ignoring it.

    Now, we’d finish them.

Bring my car, I instructed Sergei, one of my soldiers and my personal guard. Some might laugh than an enforcer had such a thing, but the Xaryas, we were an empire within the larger Kuznetsov empire. We swore absolute allegiance, and in return, we were free. None from my family would ever cross the line, not the way our enemy had.

Once settled in the backseat of my car, a shiny SUV with tinted windows, I dialed.

Speak. Zoran Kuznetsov didn’t bother with niceties. As son to the Pakhan, Ivan, he was an underboss and the second in command.

It is finished. My men will follow the information we received and leave our message. I didn’t give many details. He knew what I spoke of without elaboration. Besides, despite precautions, too many phone lines had been tapped and too many organizations had been brought down by being too free with speech.

Good. Is it as we suspected?

Da. They are bleeding their resources like an oil tanker gouged open by rocks. Armin is a desperate man. We must be cautious.

We will, Zoran assured me. And the other? You have the location?

    Nyet.

    Zoran sighed.

It will be seen to, I assured him. Even before my meeting with Petrov,
