About this ebook

Lottie:

No lie, I have always crushed on the bad boy of rock, Ryder McKenzie. In the privacy of my bedroom, I fantasized about getting away from my evil stepmother and maybe seeing one of his concerts. In all those dreams, I never imagined I'd suddenly be free and Ryder would be my rescuer.

Now, I'm on the road with my rock idol, acting as his assistant and fake girlfriend. Problem is, none of it feels make believe at all.

Ryder:

It's all real. Every single bit. Lottie is mine, and I don't care what anyone thinks about it. Now that I have my perfect girl, I'm never letting go.

    Chapter One

    ~ Lottie Porter ~

    Charlotte!

I groaned at the sound of my sister, Bianca, yelling frantically for me. Quickly, I shoved away my contraband magazine after taking one last look at the hot rock star on the cover. I’d thought I had a few more hours before she and my stepmother, Gloria, returned from Bianca’s doctor appointment.

I rolled off the bed and jumped to my feet, straightening my skirt then seating myself at my desk, so I could pretend to be studying. Which was ludicrous. This farce of getting a college degree seemed pointless. My stepmother had basically kept Bianca and me captive here since my father died. Sure, in theory, we could leave at any time, but we’d have nothing—not even proof of our identities. It was difficult to explain why Bee and I hadn’t just walked away, but why did any victims stay in a bad situation? Gloria had kept us socially and financially hostage for years.

Bianca’s feet pounded up the stairs, and she screeched my name again. My evil stepbeast couldn’t be with her or she’d be screaming about decorum.

What? I gasped, my hand pressed over my heart as I rushed to my bedroom door.

Grab a bag. Essentials only. We’re leaving.

Leaving? I echoed, my voice edged with hope. I looked around the home that was more of a prison than anything else. Like…escaping?

Yes. But we have to hurry. We have to leave quick. Before Gloria figures out I’m gone from the appointment.

I gave a hasty nod and tore back into my bedroom. Free! We were going to be free! I didn’t know how this would work out, but I didn’t care. And I tried not to think of all the roadblocks that had been thrown before us. Together, Bee and I could conquer the world.

I rushed into my closet and snagged a couple mostly packed duffle bags hidden in the back. Hastily, I shoved the last of my favorite clothes into them—clothes I usually wasn’t allowed to wear. Rooting under my bed, I grabbed the box with my precious magazine stash and tablet then added them to the top of one bag. My toothbrush, some toiletries and a couple jewelry pieces from my mom went into the other, along with the single photo I had of my parents from before they’d both died.

At the last minute, I grabbed my purse then I rushed into Bianca’s room while she finished packing.

I’ve been ready to go, I explained when she looked at me in shock.

She finished her packing then herded me toward the front door.

Have everything you want? she asked.

Besides revenge? Yeah, I guess so. I didn’t ask her questions. If my big sister had found escape for us, then I was all aboard that train.

I ran out the front door and beelined toward the waiting SUV, assuming that was our destination. I threw my bags into the backseat and slammed the door shut before Bianca even opened the front passenger side.

We took off as soon as she was in. I wasn’t sure she’d even fastened her seatbelt yet. It was exhilarating. We were on the run. A triumphant cackle built in my chest, and I wanted to throw back my head and scream for joy, but I held it back, not wanting to startle our driver.

I leaned forward in my seat, checking out the hottie behind the steering wheel. Well done, Bee. I wasn’t sure how she’d snagged him, but snag him she had. There was no missing the steamy, possessive looks being thrown her way. He was well and truly enamored with her. It was exactly what I hoped to have some day.

Hi, I’m Lottie. Thanks for saving us, Luke Skywalker.

Yes, thanks for springing us, Cody.

He gave me a chin lift before my sister recaptured his attention by also thanking him. Not that I thought she’d lost his focus for a single moment.

Anything for you, Bianca, he said, proving me right. He was completely besotted. It reminded me of one of my romance novels on my secret eReader.

He looked into the rear-view mirror at me. So, here’s the plan… I’m on my way to my vacation place up north, he said. I’m bringing you two with me. Lottie, do you know Ryder McKenzie?

Um, duh, I said, ignoring my sister’s censuring look. Sometimes, she was such a big sister.

    Charlotte… she warned.

Oh, come on, Bee. His naked chest is all over social media. He might be a great singer, but what I like is him bare chested in those gray sweats. You know that pic is my spank bank material.

    Charlotte, she groaned, looking mortified.

    I only
