    After the 911 call, RPD officers Steve Mussell and Joe Proffitt spoke to Higgs, who explained that he had been alone with his wife since the previous evening. He claimed that she had stopped breathing when he returned to their bedroom a short time later.

    Kathy died from a massive heart attack on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in Washoe Medical Center’s ICU. Her cause of death was released to the news media as complications from the heart attack, even though the definitive autopsy had not yet been performed.
