About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book.

#1 I was invited to attend the award ceremony for Most Courageous Women of the World, and I was extremely nervous. I was scared that people would see past my disguise and realize that I was just an illiterate peasant from southern Afghanistan.

#2 I was at the US Department of State, and I thought about Badgai, the strong and brave woman who had the courage no man ever had. I was afraid of all the women there, and did not like their clothes or their loud laughter.

#3 I wanted to write this book so that people would understand the lives of Afghan women. I wanted to be visible, and I wanted people to talk about us, the Afghans who fight to no longer be ghosts.
