Ceyleena J Green
Ceyleena Green grew up in two of the most volatile communities in Kingston, Jamaica. It was in these violent environments that she found solace in writing. She began writing at the tender age of eight years old, as a means of suppressing the despair that she lived in. In her school life, she showed a keen interest in Language Arts and went on to attain a grade one in English Language at the Meadowbrook High School. While in high school, she fell in love even more with creative writing, which soon allowed her to become a part of The Christian Chronicles as an Editor and Contributor. She is an up-and-coming poet and author who has already written three books that are to be released shortly. A Preponderance of Thoughts is her first attempt at publishing her works as a poet/author and the first in a series of books that expresses her poetical and writing strengths. Her influences include a gamut of the literary greats, such as: Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Maya Angelou, and Edgar Allan Poe. She is also greatly influenced by the writings of the Legendary, Bob Marley, and the Father of the Civil Rights Movement, Marcus Mosiah Garvey. This author, however, masters and hones her own skills in the art of poetry and storytelling, bringing her own individual blend and eclectic mix to the foreground of the art form. At college, Ceyleen excelled but soon had to abandon her scholastic ambitions when she became pregnant with her first and only child, her daughter. Soon after giving birth, she was diagnosed with clinical depression brought on by post-partum. In 2006, she experienced one of the worst bouts of depression in her life. One she didn't know she would survive and which lasted for three years. During this dark period, she was able to successfully write three books all in a bid to escape her demons. A Preponderance of Thoughts was her literally writing her pain, hurts, and her every thought unto paper. Having overcome her own demons, she dove headfirst in assisting persons who also struggle with mental illness, depression, and suicidal thoughts and she has made it her purpose to build public awareness in an effort to remove or at the least reduce the stigma of mental illness in Jamaica. She is presently pursuing her Bachelor of Business Administration.
