About this ebook

Over 60% of all Christian men have a porn addiction. The main goal of "Death to the Flesh" is very simple: I wish to offer a real-world strategy to help these men heal from a pornography addiction – and any anxiety associated with it!

After 30 years of giving in to my lust, I have been porn free since June 1, 2020. God has healed me, and my story is this book. I have experienced the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, and the world needs to know about it. My triumph involves healing from both a porn addiction and a severe case of anxiety (mental health) immediately after quitting. I believe this book is my purpose in life, and while some of the stories in this book might be extraordinary, they are all 100% true. According to my pastor, Craig Groeschel, founder of Life.Church, we can achieve perfect peace when our minds are ALWAYS fixed (or focused) on God's promises. He says the battle for peace always begins in our minds, and we must make a conscious effort to actually renew, or retrain, our minds in alignment with God's purpose.

I believe the content in my book will not only help men quit a porn addiction forever, but it will also help them renew their minds so they can handle any subsequent anxiety associated with quitting such a spell-binding addiction. I believe God's grace awaits their leap of faith, and I believe with all of my being that this book can help them!

Death to the Flesh - William Edward Wolfe Jr.

    1

    INTRODUCTION

Do you want to be healed?

Thank you for the opportunity to help you. I also want to praise you for having the courage to take the first step in your healing process.

Because it is indeed a process, and you must trust the process with all your heart, mind, and soul. As you should already know by now, an addiction to pornography is similar to any other addiction, whether it’s substance abuse, gambling, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or anything else. I want you to understand that you can be healed of your addiction, even during a pandemic such as COVID-19!

My name is William Wolfe, and through the power of the Holy Spirit and a commitment to trusting God’s plan for me, I have been successfully healed of a 30-year addiction to adult pornography. I have also learned how to deal with the unexpected anxiety associated with quitting such a long-term addiction. The purpose of this book is to share my story with you while providing a comprehensive approach that I believe will help you overcome your addiction and the anxiety associated with it.

The only question I have for you is: Do you want to be healed? If you do not want to be healed, I cannot help you. If you truly want to be healed of this filthy addiction, I need you to trust God’s plan for you, no matter how much it doesn’t make sense to you or no matter how far you believe you have drifted away from him. If you can do that for me, I am 100% confident you can also be healed forever.

The main goal I have for this book is very simple: I wish to offer a real-world strategy to help you heal from a pornography addiction and any anxiety associated with it. But I also hope to inspire you to truly experience God’s salvation for you through his one and only son—Jesus Christ—so that you may indeed be set free at last of your porn addiction, and perhaps discover what many of us Christians refer to as perfect peace. According to Craig Groeschel, senior pastor and founder of Life.Church, we can achieve perfect peace when our minds are ALWAYS fixed (or focused) on God’s promises. The battle for peace always begins in our minds, he says, and we must make a conscious effort to actually renew, or retrain, our minds in alignment with God’s purpose. True peace isn’t found in the absence of our problems but only in the presence of God, and your life is always moving in the direction of your strongest thoughts. Therefore, we must capture all thoughts that are not aligned with God’s purpose, and immediately replace them with thoughts that honor God.

Renewing your mind will not be easy, as it has taken many years to get to where it is now. But God’s grace awaits your leap of faith, and I know you can do this! We all have within us the same supernatural power that rose Jesus Christ from the grave, so let’s put it to good use.

    PART 1

Making Sense Of Porn Addiction and Anxiety

Did you know that over 60% of all Christian men are addicted to pornography? (Smith, 2020) Let this statistic percolate for a moment. Moreover, in a recent article titled Why Pornography is the Greatest Threat to Today’s Church, writer Steve Gallagher, Founder and President of Pure Life Ministries, says that statistics clearly show that pornography addiction has become a huge problem in the United States, citing an estimate that 60 million Americans have visited one or more sexually explicit web sites on a regular basis.

Gallagher believes the main reason why so many male Jesus followers can be so involved in something so dirty, nasty, and against their Christian belief system is because, quite frankly, pornography appeals to one of the most powerful testosterone-driven functions of a man’s body: his sex drive. Steve goes on to offer some very insightful tweets about the subject, which are two of my favorites:

It goes without saying that the enemy will do everything within his power to enslave Christian men in habitual sexual sin.

    and:

The greatest threat to the Church today is not so much the pornography itself as much as it is the lackadaisical attitude many Christians have about its wrongness.

But what does the bible actually say about pornography? While many scholars may have differing opinions about this topic, I believe the bible does in fact offer ample evidence and guidance on the topic of sexual immorality, adultery, and the importance of honoring our bodies in a holy manner. In fact, 1 Corinthians 6:13 says, You say, ‘Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.’ The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And 1 Corinthians 6:18 states that we should Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

Hebrews 13:4 says, Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. And Matthew 5:27-28 says, You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

I don’t know about you, but that’s enough to convince
