About this ebook
Piano Chords One is a book for beginners, yes, but it's also for those who took classical piano lessons and wished they had learned more about chord theory. How great would it be to hear a song on the radio and be able to play it without needing the notes written out? This is a solution.
This book is for beginners or if you've taken traditional piano lessons but would like to learn how to play by ear.
You'll learn root position and first and second inversion chords for the keys of C, G, F, D, A, E, and B (All the white key keys). You'll go in that order while working through this book because each key adds a new sharp or flat note. This is called following the circle of fifths. It doesn't take long before you feel like you've advanced in your playing.
You'll learn all of these chords as part of this beautifully laid out course:
- The Key of C: C, Dm, C/E, F, G, Am, G/B
- The Key of G: G, Am, G/B, C, D, Em, D/F#
- The Key of F: F, Gm, F/A, Bb, C, Dm, C/E
- The Key of D: D, Em, D/F#, G, A, Bm, A/C#
- The Key of A: A, Bm, A/C#, D, E, F#m, E/G#
- The Key of E: E, F#m, E/G#, A, B, C#m, B/D#
- The Key of B: B, C#m, B/D#, E, F#, G#m, F#/A#

There are no songs written out inside this book because the purpose is to be able to play any song you'd like. After working through the first key you will be able to search Google for your favorite song in the key of C. Begin learning how to play the chords to your favorite songs today.

Introduction
Jumpy Frog songs or what?
The best thing about teaching guitar lessons is how fast a student can learn to play a song. If you’ll learn the G, C, D, and Em chords, you can play most pop songs. For centuries, the piano hasn’t been taught with this kind of out-of-the-gate launch speed. Most piano teachers begin by teaching music notes, then scales, then right-hand technique, then left-hand, etc. It can take up to six weeks before you begin playing your first song. Plus, most teachers use intro to piano or method books. A friend of mine appropriately named the songs within them jumpy frog songs. These are the type that the red bouncing ball would have accompanied in elementary school TV shows in the 1980s. Jumpy frog songs are boring! It’s time to bring the play-a-song-from-day-one guitar method to the piano. I’ve used this technique with many students and the success rate is just as high as with those who have learned guitar.
So, why don't most piano instructors teach using this piano chord method? There are two answers to this question. First, it's what they know. In other words, it's how they were taught when they first learned the instrument. They’re comfortable with the process. The second reason is that it takes a skilled and patient teacher to know just how fast to move with each particular student. Each individual has to be properly evaluated. When using a jumpy frog method book, you move at the pace of the book itself. The lesson plan is already spelled out. In reality, the teacher only needs to know a little bit more than the student. In essence, an eight-year-old could teach a seven-year-old to play the piano using a well prepared jumpy frog book.
So, what about all of the traditional stuff? What about learning music notation, left and right-hand technique, and so on? You do need to know this material, but it can be discovered as you go. Instead of spending six weeks talking about the piano, we're going to spend six weeks playing songs.
Another question you may have is about playing Beethoven, Bach, and Schumann. The classical piano teacher has me beat on this one. This piano chord method isn't about sight-reading sheet music. That's what traditional piano lessons do best. Rather, this is for people who want play piano or keyboard on a worship team or in a pop, country, or rock band. This method is for singer-songwriters and creative musicians. It’s for those who want to hear a song on the radio and have the tools to play it. If you want to create your own music, this is the way to start!
It's time to resist the urge to use jumpy frog piano books and launch out into the deep. It’s time to be a creative musician. We will even be able to play songs from day one. Here we go!
The Foundation
Fundamentals that work in every key
Before we head into our first few chords, let's establish a few of the fundamentals. These work in every key and for each chord that you'll learn. You are welcome to come back to this section as often as you need. Some of the information below will help you to develop good habits on the piano and never to develop any of the bad. It’s always better to begin something new by establishing good habits rather than needing to break bad ones later.
The parts of your piano or keyboard
First, whether you have a ten-thousand-dollar grand piano, a 1985-upright piano, or a digital keyboard, you’re in business to do well with this book. Never assume that because you have a keyboard rather than a real piano that your experience is
