Crissy Moss grew up in the rural California foot hills entertaining herself by playing with the dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and geese that lived on the family farmstead. I heard the clatter of metal outside, and Gracy began barking at the back door ferociously. Something was in the trash again. It was the fifth time that month and I was sick of it. Apparently so was Gracy.
I jumped to my feet, grabbing the shovel by the back door as I swung open the screen. Gracy darted into the yard, her little legs pumping as she got to the top step. She tapped around at the edge of the landing, but the tiny terrier didn’t dare go out into the dark backyard.
