1817, MARCH 17
The sound of the waves as they splashed violently against the ship made Grace Featherstone feel ill with seasickness. While their return from the Americas had not been a pleasant one, it was not only the only reason Grace was afraid. Only two days after they departed New York following a lovely visit with her cousins, several of the passengers revealed themselves to be bandits interested in stealing everything of value from the others on the ship.
This was not the way Mrs. Featherstone wished for her marriage to her beloved Jasper to begin.
Her husband held her hand tightly as the bandits rocked back and forth in the hammocks that hung in the cargo hold. Jasper paid for a very nice little room for them to share on their way back, but they had not been allowed to enjoy it on the return voyage. The pirates who overtook the ship forced all of the passengers into the cargo hold and tore through their rooms, searching for anything they could sell or trade. Now, instead of enjoying a quiet return voyage to England after a pleasant journey abroad, their ship was bouncing all over the sea. The men in control did not seem to have any idea where they intended to go next, and those on the ship were simply along for the ride.
Grace knew her hands were shaking, but Jasper held them as close to his chest as he was able.

Grace gasped and buried her head in Jasper’s shoulder.
The farm, Jasper. Mr. and Mrs. Darcy will not know we have not returned. Who will care for the farm? For the horses?
Jasper kissed his new
