    INTRODUCTION

Wow, I really felt a difference! It’s like something has lifted, I can feel that my muscles have truly and involuntarily relaxed. Did I really do it?

I distinctly recall the first time when I felt that a problem of mine got truly dissolved. It was after no less than ten years of experiments in the field of human psychology, and having tried countless ways that pretty much covered all that I could study; this time it was different.

I felt something change about my perception of the problem that I was trying to tackle, and it was a change that I hadn’t witnessed before in all my experiments. It wasn’t something that resembled a practice of conditioning or a logical attempt at a resolution, it was a change in perception that took place in a completely involuntary manner.

That moment things clicked for me, and the premise of this method got born.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been trying to understand why we do what we do, what motivates us, and why we can’t seem to live in that true state of peace that we all aspire to have.

Happiness can only exist in complete harmony. However, we all experience turbulent emotions that constantly tend to mar that experience. Persistent emotions like: agony, fear, anger, jealousy and a myriad of others seem to come between us and that perfect state.

What prevents us from reaching our full potential? Are our behaviors and personality traits really ours? Or are they a product of conditioning and traumas that develop throughout our lives? Many of us know the story of how elephants are trained and how inflicting severe pain at an early age conditions those animals to abide by the instructions given to them by their trainers, even as they grow bigger and more substantial.

I believe that what limits human beings is quite similar.

Those traumatic experiences that occur to us throughout our lives, especially during our early years leave an imprint that can cause a person’s perception - and behavior - to change for the remainder of his or her life.

This book suggests a new method that targets the resolution of human traumas, and it also contains many examples of actual cases that I’ve treated throughout the past years. I suggest you study the method, and then attempt to apply the steps to a few issues you have and intend to resolve. Every problem we have begins with a trauma, and getting over that trauma is the key to experiencing our full potential during the course of our lives.

I often tell my patients that resolving a trauma is like taking off a pair of glasses tinted with a certain color. We are not changing anything around us; what we’re doing is changing how we perceive and feel about that particular issue. If the trauma is successfully tackled, the issue will simply cease to bother us, and we’ll return to the original and natural state that we were all born with.

What we do when we resolve traumas is merely an act similar to taking off this pair of tinted glasses, changing our perception about whatever used to bother us. This concept is exactly what this book intends to teach you.

With that in mind, let’s begin.

    REALLY? DEPRESSION

I remember how odd it was, back in primary school, as I was reading a Scientific American article that explained how depression is, in actuality, a physical condition rather than a psychological one.

It felt so counter-intuitive to read that interesting piece of information, with my youthful mind simply refusing to acknowledge the reasoning behind that statement, being too young, of course, to understand the impact of hormones on our bodies.

Nonetheless, as an ambitious kid, I never thought that it would be a feeling I’d be experiencing soon after.

    But it did hit me.

Early on, I was one of those kids who got heavily engaged in the adult world of business at an extremely young age. I was pretty talented in computer programming and took on serious projects when I was no more than 12 years old. As time passed, I founded my own company when I was 19 and spent the following years engaged in a very active business life.

These were fascinating years; however, little did I know that my life’s journey was about to take a significant turn and that the field I thought I’d be engaged in for the rest of my life wasn’t the path that I was meant to undertake.

There was one major incident that began this transition for me.

One day, as I was taking a photo for a visa application, which I needed for a business trip, it suddenly hit me.

I was barely able to open my eyes and smile for the camera.

I felt as if there was a tremendous pressure over my eyelids, similar to what you’d feel if you attempted to look directly at the sun. It was then that I realized what that article I mentioned earlier meant. Regardless of one’s thoughts or motives, something physical can indeed take place and prevent us from experiencing an optimum emotional state.

I started to read about it and experimented with various methods, which ended up with me returning to university for a second major to study the science of human psychology.

At the same time, I also began to notice how temporary shifts in my mood were governed by the different foods I ate. At about the age of 17, I switched to a macrobiotic diet and remained with it for about seven years, after which I changed to a Ketogenic yet plant-based system.

When it came to academic literature, I was extremely fascinated by the level of depth represented with the theories of Sigmund Freud, most notably when it came to the way he understood and explained the psychology of infants during the early years of their development. Needless to say, his theories initiated a lot of controversies due to the unusual and radical ideas concerning human sexuality.

What’s not generally understood is that Freud began to draw these theories after he concluded the presence of a form of energy that governed both our sexuality and our psychological health, which he called ‘The Libido’. He theorized that it’s indispensable for this force to flow uninhibited in order to maintain optimum mental and physical states. However, he, unfortunately, refuted this theory later on and proceeded with other studies concerning the field of psychoanalysis. It was for a student of his, Dr. Wilhelm Reich, to continue and carry out this research, having deeply believed in the validity of these proposed theories.

Reich undertook extensive studies to prove that this force did indeed exist, which he did with great success. Although offered with ample evidence, his research was unfortunately far ahead of its time and too controversial to be accepted by mainstream science.

Reich took off to perform countless controlled studies to measure and prove the existence of this force. He gave it the name ‘Orgone’ to signify its connection to human sexuality but made it clear that it can very well be the same form of energy understood long ago by the east and represented using terms analogous to ‘The Life Force.’

What makes this introduction relevant to this book?

    I’ll answer with a scenario:

A child is born a beautiful, spontaneous, and natural being with no inhibitions that mar its psychological state. Its muscles are relaxed, it feels completely loved and accepted, and is ready to embrace life without any inhibitions that limit its potential.

Now, fast forward in time and look at this child again as it grows into an adult. Examine this person’s face, then tell me what you see in the process.

Are the muscles on this person’s face relaxed? Or do they show signs of unresolved emotions and agonies that relate to countless perceptions about the world and the people around him or her?

Do you think this person is functioning with that same level of enthusiasm that was once there during his or her early childhood? What happened in the middle?

I think you know where I’m going with this train of thoughts:

    Traumas

Traumas that lead to a permanent change in this person’s perception, typically occurring due to emotionally charged abnormal events during the early years of this person’s childhood.

For example, you can encounter a 40 years old adult who constantly avoids learning a specific skill because of an incident that traumatized him or her at a young age. This skill, e.g. swimming, painting, etc., can otherwise be quickly learned in a relatively short period if it wasn’t for the presence of this limiting trauma.

Similarly, one might fail at his career because of a limiting belief or might fear pursuing a passion of his or her because of embarrassing failures that occurred in earlier attempts.

The truth is, any skill can be quickly developed if proper habits are utilized. However, trauma can lurk and fester in the unconscious mind, preventing us from taking the straightforward steps that guarantee our success in the pursuit of almost anything we can imagine.

These traumas formed during our early childhood years are extremely dangerous because they stand in the way of our progression. And though failure is expected before a person succeeds, it’s the traumas that come to exist with these failures that prevent us from trying again. Unless we know how to manage and dissolve these hindering traumas, we won’t take things to the next level.

Can you imagine the ability to go back to that place of unlimited potential we all started with? It’s an absolute possibility, and this is the purpose of this book.

It’s vital to know that traumas do not only affect us on an emotional level but can also have significant physical effects.

Every memory and belief can potentially leave a literal imprint on us physically.

From a Reichian perspective, this is considered a form of Orgonic stagnation. It’s pretty similar to the eastern view of ‘Chi’ – or life force – and how physical ailments can develop as a direct result of this energy failing to take its natural path in our bodies.

If you want to see an example of these traumatic effects on your body, get yourself a small mirror and look at your face. Can you relax all your muscles comfortably? Can you smile genuinely? Try to relax all your facial muscles and observe the areas that seem to be chronically and involuntarily contracted.

    Most people fail at that.

Why? Because our contracted gestures are representations of various stagnant emotions, many of which are chronically engraved due to traumas that happened in our past.

Every contracted muscle on your face and in your body can potentially be a direct result of a trauma that happened at a point in time. Gradually, these chronically contracted muscles become more and more physically visible, which is why traumas tend to accelerate aging - as well as the formation of diseases - in people.

Every persistent emotion and muscular contraction will also exhibit stress on a related organ since our biological system is entirely interconnected. These ‘muscular armors’ also have an effect on our glandular system, which in turn controls our hormones, consequently affecting our entire physical and emotional state.

The connection between our endocrine system and the eastern approach of Chakras is fascinating to consider and examine. The fundamentals of traditional eastern medicine include the energetic anatomy of our bodies to complement the physical counterpart. It explains the flow of our life force which presumably Dr. Reich came to explore with modern scientific instrumentation, and is exactly what Dr. Reich referred to in his work as ‘Orgone Energy’.

The east has utilized this energetic map to resolve physiological ailments throughout the ages. And since we all know that our emotions interact with our biological dynamics through their effects on our endocrine system, I’m suggesting that traumas play a significant role in leaving an emotional imprint that can find its way to alter our physical state chronically.

According to Dr. Reich, those chronic contractions in our muscles are caused by past traumas, and are significant to the natural flow of this life force that he theorized and examined.

The bottom line is: To be healthy and well-balanced, we must resolve our traumas.

Why? Because just as temporary emotions cause temporary physical changes, traumas (or chronic emotions) do cause a permanent change that can be physically detrimental over time.

So as you see, not only do traumas prevent us from being the best version of ourselves by standing in the way of our potential, but also they slowly destroy us physically by changing the dynamics of how our energy is supposed to nourish us. I’m sure we’re hitting on some chief secrets that were passed to us by earlier civilizations, but dismissed due to the lack of our ability to validate them using the instruments we currently have.

Suppose we can dissolve all of our traumas. In that case, we will undoubtedly be back where we started when we were newly born infants, endowed with unlimited potential and capable of realizing anything we want. Those limiting burdens will be lifted, alleviating with them our entire psychological and physiological state.

What would happen if we were able to be completely free of traumas? The potential to do anything? Exponential growth? Ideal health? I think this is an exciting area to explore.

This is left for experimentation, but one thing is certain; significant change will be happening to our advantage.

    ADVENTURES WITH NUTRITION

My adventures with nutrition played a vital role in shaping my views on the physiological factors that can alter our emotional state, therefore I found it essential to add this chapter and take you through some of the most vital trials that helped form the conclusions I eventually came to during those years of experiments.

This chapter is also significant because I need you to notice the impact – and the difference - between physiological and psychological effects when you’re navigating through a problem, trying to figure out the original trauma that caused the problem to arise and escalate.

Some of those emotions being experienced can indeed be a direct product of hormonal imbalances, which can be caused by an unsuitable diet, the intake of stimulants and various drugs, and as a product of some underlying physical or glandular conditions.

Here’s a critical incident that occurred during my early years of experiments that I cannot dismiss to mention.

I think this was in 2007, and it happened during a typical night when I was hanging out with a few of my friends. Towards the end of that gathering, someone suggested going for a dessert at a nearby shop, and I tagged along even though I knew I wasn’t going to order anything, as I was beginning to avoid refined sugar at the time.

When we arrived at the shop, and while my friends were taking their orders, I noticed the store was advertising a new variety sweetened
