People are increasingly working past their late sixties and living to the age of 90 or older, but the same people have few retirement savings—many lost a large portion of their savings in the stock market collapse of 2008.

    Open enrollment for Medicare generally occurs between October 15 and December 7 each year. The first-time enrollment period for Medicare Part A hospital care coverage and Part B general care coverage lasts for seven months with the middle month being the one in which an individual turns 65.
