O! ITALY WE STAND WITH YOU
(This poem was written during height
of corona virus in Italy – 2020 when poet was
student at University of Rome, Tor, Vergata)
O! land of mighty emperors
Brave fighters, doughty warriors
Captivating artists, versatile actors
O! Land of art, sculptors, writers
Pope, priests, bishops and Caesars
O! Land of classy fashion designers
In this time of trial and tribulations
Broken hearts and faces crestfallen
Depressed citizens, emotions swollen
O! Italy we stand with you
O! Land of Michael Angelo sculptor
Beautiful people, brave soldiers
O! Land of beautiful hills, lovely valleys
Clean, clear, attractive Roman alleys
Enjoying travelers, revelers’ rallies
O! Land of Pastas and pizzas
Ancient mother of innovative ideas
Divine rule clearly tells
Darkness is always brief
We share your unbearable grief
O! Italy we stand with you
If Rome is creeping desolated, so what?
If Milan is weeping isolated, so what?
If Venice is seeping hibernated, so what?
If Florence is sobbing alienated, so what?
O! Country of eternal forbearance
Resilience, rectitude and brilliance
Days are not far away
Deadly Corona is done away
Rome will dance in joy
We all will enjoy
O! Italy, we stand with you
Andrea O! Italian brat
Handsome dashing classmate
Maria woman of high trait
Piga our professor the great
Andrea Appoloni brave upbeat
Corona an ugly monster
With indomitable will, you deter
Italy will stand and conquer
New dawn will be brighter
We the eighth generation of procurers
Your friends, students and guests
Stand with you in hour of test
O! Italy we stand with you.
REFUGE GIRL
In a frosty chilly night
I a refuge girl, in pitiable plight
Famished, thinned, skeleton like sprite
Losing hope, calm, may die tonight
Come! Come! listen, my harrowing tale
I wish to bare my soul and wail
Hilarious, running, fighting once a gail
Alas golden days, I have lost trail
Inaudible, unusable, invisible, frail
My younghood taken before it came
My dreams stolen before they could beam
To my father I was a precious pearl
Now angst, hate, abuses, each one hurl
Come! Come! listen to me I am a refuge girl
My father, loving, caring, jolly man
To us like an umbrella in rain
My mother, simple, rustic woman
With beautiful hands like woolen
My brother, handsome, hurly burly
Blue eyed, rose colored, hair curly
One day my father came grim faced
Worried, hounded, harassed, afraid
O!God
there is war cried and said
As time slowly went by
Turning blue into bloody red sky
Bullets, guns, thundering, roaring
Pushing us in fearful mourning
One day early in the morning
They brutal, lethal, came storming
Before we realized what is happening
Alas in the vicious, cruel maddening
I saw, brother, mother, father, killed
I felt, dazed, numbed, despite hair pulled
When I came to sense
Monster mauled me, pain immense
Oho! now I am chattel to
