About this ebook

"From Plight to Promise" is interest-evoking, conviction-inspiring, and a powerfully irrefutable read. It will introduce to some and enhance for others the knowledge and understanding of a fundamental culture which was designed to give meaning to reality.

That's our amazing story as a people and within our story is his story, and From Plight to Promise tells that compelling story. Acknowledging that our unique experience with its many triumphs and tragedies is still the embodiment of totality.

Because of history's profound disdain for people of color, he wanted his children to know and understand that in reality there is only one race, "the human race," which has been proven to have originated in Afrika.

He exposed his children to our amazing story to bring truth to their reality and to build character by showing and teaching them the distinctive nature of their Afrikan origin. More specifically, he wanted children of color globally to know and understand that they are so much more than what history has told them they are.

From Plight to Promise is an insightful and compelling narrative intended for all people, because it exposes the changeable and unchangeable nature of life circumstances, but it also gives the necessary wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to address those circumstances.

From Plight to Promise - Raymond Head

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to my late daughter, Meghan, who disciplined herself and allowed me to be her teacher. Meghan was truly one of the most inspirational catalysts in respect to my spiritual walk and overall growth from her sunrising to her sunsetting. Not only did she bring about a heightened level of spiritual consciousness, she also brought with her a set of circumstances that started us on an intricate and insightful journey.

A journey whereas circumstances plotted our course, but wisdom, knowledge, and understanding completed our journey. Meghan’s journey showed us that as children of a sovereign Creator, we are never victims of our circumstances. Her journey perilous, yet protected, showed us that only the brave, the wise, the relentless, and the well-tested have the means to make it through. For those reasons, among others, I honor and respect her.

I am immensely grateful that our Creator entrusted me with the task of taking care of His beloved Meghan. It has truly been a humbling undertaking, an undeserved honor, and a privilege that has given me irrefutable truth, indestructible strength, and eternal hope. Therefore, it is incumbent upon me to keep the light of truth forever shining.

    Acknowledgments

To my wife and soulmate, Tribune, thank you for completing me. You are my rock, bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh. You are one of the strongest women I know. Together we have weathered some of life’s most difficult storms. We have also been favored recipients of the joys and the fulfillments that this life has to offer. I thank you for being the mother of my children and the woman of my dreams.

You have helped me to become a better husband, a better father, and a better man. You have somehow managed to make me a better version of myself. You have taught me the true meaning of love and given me balance through your compassion and caring nature. I love and treasure you more than life itself.

To my daughters, Alisha and Rachel, whom I love in a way that only a father can understand. I have had the joy of watching my little girls grow into beautiful and productive young women. You both have inspired me and given me a gift that has helped to shape my character, as well as my life. You both are, and always will be, an essential part of my intricate journey. Thank you both for allowing me to be your daddy and always know that you both hold a special place in my heart where love is unconditional.

Much love for my late parents; I can’t thank our Creator enough for them. Maryion and Carlwell Head, the proud parents of sixteen children, who, in my opinion, were the absolute best parents in the world. They were both profound teachers and students of life. I thank them for providing a firm, stable, and principled foundation. They taught us crucial concepts and vital principles from the very beginning because they understood how essential these principles would be in developing and shaping the character of their children. Their actions showed us that joy can emerge from the ashes of adversity once we realize that often our blessings come wrapped in trials. We thank you, Mom and Dad, for continuing to stand in the gap.

To my siblings, a special thanks to all of you for being an intricate part of me. Our parents always taught us that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Therefore, we learned early on to rely on one another. I love you all in a unique and unexplainable way. We have shared so much from the very beginning, which should bond us together to the very end. I wish you all indestructible strength and eternal happiness.

To my village, I render a deliberate, warm, and heartfelt thank you. Specifically, to my godparents Pat and Robert Belle, a gift from the Creator Himself—they were and are undoubtedly fundamental cornerstones of my village and have been a blessing to many. They, too, are profound teachers and students of life.

My village has been one of the most important aspects in the development of me. You are the people, the times, the places, and the experiences that have created the lifelong intimacies learned and shared along the way. You are the past, the present, and the future. Again, I thank you all for your struggle that has given me access to the necessary wisdom, knowledge, and information to know and make a difference.

    Preface

Writing this book has been both challenging and adventurous for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I am not a writer and until the day of my daughter’s home-going celebration, I had no intentions of being one. However, writing this book has truly become my labor of love, which has given me a vital platform allowing me to expose the true nature of our compelling story. More specifically, it has allowed me to perceptively articulate who I am, where I’ve come from, and where I still must go.

Writing has also allowed me to willingly take the necessary risks associated with the indoctrination of an inherent ideology that I’ve internalized, taught, and avidly implemented into my children’s belief systems through an intense process of discovery and reiteration, which I can now informatively write about.

My belief system was primarily acquired and established through extensive research proving to be irrefutable and conclusive in nature. My amazing educational and inspirational journeys to our ancestral homeland were definitely the icing on my cake. Equally enhancing has been my life-altering experiences. However, I have learned to regard them all as teaching mechanisms or building blocks designed to establish fact and assist in reaching new conclusions. These crucial elements are fundamental and will always be of central importance in my continued growth and development.

I reside in Stone Mountain, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, with my wife, Tribune, of thirty years and three daughters. Alisha is my eldest and Rachel is my youngest, also the twin of Meghan who transitioned in May of 2014. Prior to giving the closing prayer at Meghan’s home-going celebration, I talked about some of the unique things that not only made her truly remarkable, but those things that demanded my respect and warm approval.

After my brief, but intimate, reflection on Meghan’s life, I informed the audience that for further reflection they would have to read my book. It was at that point the seed was planted and From Plight to Promise is the harvest. Not only is it the fruit of my labor, but it is also organic in nature without the use of artificial agents. It is also irrefutable and of biological origin.

Ultimately, I wanted to tell a compelling story exposing the variable and invariable nature of life and circumstances. From Plight to Promise is that compelling story. It will introduce to some and enhance for others the knowledge and inherent understanding of a fundamental culture that was initially designed to give meaning to reality.

I’ve dedicated this book to my late daughter Meghan, because she was truly my hero. Meghan was a seventeen-year cancer survivor, who, in my opinion, possessed ancestral attributes. Sadly, she will never know the positive impact her life has had on so many, including me. I would be remiss if I failed to disclose that Meghan disciplined herself and allowed me to be her teacher. Therefore, I can say with extreme certainty that not only was Meghan my student, but she was also one of my most profound teachers.

My lessons started early on and continued to the time of Meghan’s sunsetting. From the time she was a little girl, I could clearly see the amazement in her eyes and feel the warmth and compassion in her heart as I would tell her fascinating stories. It was at that point it became apparent to me that my little girl was extra special.

More to the point, because of my need to nurture and her desire to know, accompanied with her willingness to learn, she has given me the necessary motivation to tell the greatest story ever, our story, and within our story is my story From Plight to Promise. It is truly an interest-evoking, conviction-inspiring, and a powerfully irrefutable read, but don’t take my word—read it for yourself.

    Afrika vs. Africa

As you will notice, I spell Afrika with a K instead of a C. This is because most vernacular or traditional languages on the continent spell Afrika with a K. Therefore, the use of K is relevant to us. Although we are not certain of the origin of the name Afrika, we are certain the name spelled with the C came into use when Afrikans were dispersed over the world. Therefore, the K symbolizes our coming back together again.

Using the letter K is my way of fulfilling my ancestral obligation in regard to the verification and distribution of factual knowledge and information to enhance and support the empowerment and liberation of my people. It is also a fundamental part of my activism, leading to my understanding and acknowledgment of the explicit nature of the word Afrika, spelled with a K.

In the words of the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, in his outstanding work, Afrika for the Afrikans:

In the spelling of Afrika, a k is used rather than a c because for many activists the k represents an acknowledgment that Africa is not the true name of that vast continent. When one speaks of Afrika, they’re bringing an Afrikan-centered view of the meaning. Therefore, the Afrika spelled with a k represents a redefined and potentially different Afrika, and also it symbolizes a coming back together of Afrikan people worldwide. Let it be understood that when one speaks of Afrika, and when most whites think of Africa, they are coming from two different worldviews. One view supports the Afrikan ethos [spirit], while the other view supports the European ethos.

    Analytical Appraisals

I will also give a short analytical appraisal after various chapters. My appraisals will be given in the section entitled, Hidden in Plain View. My appraisals will be based solely on facts and ethics representing truth, reality, and the body of moral principles. I felt this would broaden that sense of intimacy I wanted to share with my readers, giving you all an in-depth look into my world of reality.

    The Ancestors

The word ‘Ancestor’ is not a proper noun that requires capitalization. However, I adamantly choose to do so, because in our Afrikan tradition and culture, the Ancestors are just that important.

    Introduction

My purpose for writing this book is to tell our compelling story in relation to my story of intrinsic transformation. Our amazing story is irrefutable in nature, acknowledging the historical, spiritual, and cultural aspects of Afrikan/Black people, from our time of promise to our time of plight. From Plight to Promise also highlights the correlation between our story and my personal story of intrigue and transformation.

This established connection has allowed me to continue building onto a story that I’ve told my three daughters from the time they were little girls. A story to let them know who they are, where they come from, and what their potentials are as individuals. A powerful and authentic story giving prominence to the fact that they are beautiful, gifted, and Black, simply because these are inherent attributes of our story.

I also felt it was imperative for my daughters to know the role racism played and continues to play in shaping our world today, as it did in shaping our world yesterday. More importantly, despite the issues of race, racism, and sexism, I wanted my children, and in particular children of color globally, to know that in reality there is only one race, the human race, which has been proven to have originated in Afrika.

Telling my daughters our story, The Afrikan ancestral legacy, from the time they could mentally grasp it was my way of introducing them to their higher self. I wanted them to know, understand, and internalize why and how the Afrikan experience is, in fact, the embodiment of totality. Equally important, I wanted them to know that this unique Afrikan experience fundamentally constitutes who we truly are as Black people.

For me, the focusing on and nurturing of Afrikan-centered knowledge is not only my parental obligation, it is also my ancestral obligation. In essence, my indoctrination process is no different from any other group of people of a different nationality telling their very own story. However, my purpose for writing this book is not to change anyone’s mind or to offer undocumented or unsubstantiated claims. My reasons are just the opposite.

I will provide truth as opposed to subjective interpretation. These truths will be based on facts and ethics representing reality, truth, and the body of moral principles. For some, these truths will be harder to grasp than for others. For that reason, it is essential for me to provide information and knowledge free from error in accordance with fact and truth.

In my opinion, the Afrikan ancestral legacy is the greatest story ever told. Being of Afrikan descent, I wanted to tell our amazing story from my personal perspective, revealing fundamental truths concerning the continent of Afrika, as she relates to me and my journey from plight to promise.

Often the story of Afrika and her people is told incorrectly or not at all. For that very reason, my personal perspective is absolutely necessary because it attaches me to my journey and my journey to our amazing story. This allows me to share my humanistic point of view with people from all walks of life, allowing others to relate to and empathize with our story, while at the same time engaging in my journey from plight to promise.

‘Plight’ refers to a condition, state, or situation; one that is dangerous, difficult, unfavorable, or unfortunate. Despite my understanding of this undesirable condition having been deliberately crafted and implemented in an obvious and unacceptable manner, I still avidly acknowledge my plight because it has and will continue to fuel my intricate journey, allowing me to clearly see and embrace my promise.

My ‘Promise’ represents a necessary awakening, setting the grounds for future expectations. More specifically, it represents the resurrection of consciousness, encompassing that which is real, factual, historical, and spiritual. It also provides vision, giving me the ability to see beyond and rise above my circumstances.

From Plight to Promise is the harvest of many years of research and life experiences. In conducting my research, it was imperative to start from the beginning; the place where humanity began. It is truly my belief that in order to know where you’re going, it’s imperative to know where you’ve come from. The late Dr. Carter G. Woodson stated with certainty:

Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.

Additionally, I wanted to share some of the divine favor and insight that has been revealed to me in hope that it may be just as advantageous for those of you who dare to look closer to what is hidden in plain view.

I am humbled to have been exposed to and guided through years of extensive research and exploratory travels to further document and substantiate the things I write about. I, too, like many of my Ancestors and elders who’ve come before me, feel a sense of obligation to reveal the fundamental truths concerning contributions of the Afrikan continent to civilization, for a number of reasons.

My journey is to ultimately find truth and gain knowledge of self. I have found to this point that in truly knowing self, you will know God and the truth will, in fact, make you free. My journey has physically taken me deep into the fallopian tube of civilization, a crucial place for the assimilation of knowledge and information that is essential for me to be effective in undressing the well-dressed lies history has told.

From Plight to Promise was written with a few specific objectives in mind. First and foremost was to pass on some of the essential wisdom, knowledge, and information discovered through my research. Additionally, I wanted to expose some of the tyranny, immorality, and opposition that is still painfully apparent in Afrika to this present day. I found this devastating revelation both frightening and enlightening.

Second, I wanted to identify, expose, and analytically destroy the roots of the systemic misconceptions that have been associated with Afrika and her descendants. After identifying the systematic devices, or the most devastating psychological ploy imaginable that was intentionally implemented to diminish the legacy of my people, I decided it was time to take action.

Realizing that not only was an astute level of consciousness required, but also a keen sense of moral and ethical principles had to be accompanying factors, I then engaged my ultimate weapon of mass destruction—that being my esoteric mindset and it truly took me to the higher ground. I was then reminded of the powerful words of Frederick Douglass, If there is no struggle there is no progress.

Third, I wanted to share with you all a sense of kinship on a universal level, understanding that the issues I address are not about Black or White, or even ‘them versus us’—they are about how we perceive all things and bond them together in an indestructible unity embracing all aspects of life.

Moreover, it is about readjusting our ethical and moral compasses to represent
