About this ebook

Project managing a major ERP software upgrade project is a "once-in-a-lifetime" situation in many cases. It may take years or decades to get prepared for this achievement, and when it is done, PM's are often moving to other positions, letting the "young lions" to show off next time.

This major project happened to the author in 2016 and it was so different compared to any other earlier projects... So he decided to collect his thougths, impressions, lessons learned to save it for himself first, but also for those lions who will put the PM hat on in the future.

The book is an overview of the steps of a successful ERP software upgrade project with comments and recommendations, comparing approaches, methods, decisions that were working or were not, from project initiation to golive.

Epilogue

Preface to the 1st edition

5years ago, Christmas celebration was not as peaceful as in the previous years – day and night, my thoughts were around a project golive date that was less than a month away.

Since then, I have been planning to publish this little book. The reasons are simple: to share my story with co-workers, to give some advice to others who happen to get in the same shoes. But during the years my attention was always redirected. Till now, because I have decided to take the first step and publish my thoughts to the public finally. This is not a textbook nor an academic dissertation. A story with some lessons learned. Enjoy.
