    Growing up, I did not feel as if I belonged.

    I grew up in a house full of academic intellects, and I am not one. I felt misunderstood, and I felt isolated. It did not matter how hard I tried; I did not measure up. I struggled to communicate with my family, and I struggled to relate. I wondered where I had come from and why I was so different. As a young girl, I did not understand who I was or what I was supposed to become. I disliked drifting aimlessly through life. I needed a purpose. I needed a reason, and I knew there had to be more to life. I struggled through school, and on top of feeling alone, I struggled with my weight. I was heavier than my siblings and my friends, and this played on my mind continually. My weight added to the angst I already experienced about my own self-worth. I was
