IELTS General Writing - Jennifer Anderson

WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR?

To attain a high score in the IELTS (General Training), one has to overcome many obstacles. Many people rely on the IELTS to obtain a visa or to obtain a position at a university.

Therefore, it is important to understand what makes a high-quality writing answer before taking the test if you need an IELTS score of 8 or above.

Many people take the IELTS more than once without reaching their desired score and do not understand why.

This guide was written specifically for people like you who want to view examples of IELTS-compliant writing answers that would achieve a high IELTS score if they were written for the test.

Many examples of sample answers on the internet today have not been reviewed for quality and are potentially misleading.

These methods have been proven to produce high scores for most students who have used the answers in this book written by a veteran IELTS teacher with more than a decade of experience.

The following book will assist you in understanding the requirements of the IELTS Writing section.

You should read this book if:

- You didn't achieve a high writing score when you took the IELTS exam before, and you don't know why.

- After searching online for sample answers, you are concerned about their quality and who wrote them.

- If you have never taken IELTS, you could review high-scoring answers to understand how they're structured.

- You need to know how to write high-scoring answers at the last minute since your IELTS exam is very soon.

GENERAL WRITING

For the Writing section of IELTS, there are two options: Academic and General Training.

To obtain a work visa or a job in most English-speaking countries, candidates are often required to complete a General Training format.

Written English is a test that measures a person's ability to communicate effectively in an academic setting and the capability to understand different tasks and respond to them appropriately.

While each task has an allotted time, candidates must manage their own time since there is an hour allotted to finish the writing section. It would be detrimental to the candidate's final result if they spend more than twenty minutes on task 1.

Furthermore, task 2 (the essay) is worth twice as many marks, requiring a higher level of attention due to its complexity.

TASK 1 WRITING GENERAL TRAINING

What Is Task 1?

The purpose of this task is to determine a candidate's ability to write well and understand the cultural implications of the English language. During the application process, candidates must identify the purpose and tone of the letter.

There will be various letter types and levels of formality, but only one will be given per test. Among them are:

a) Formal

b) Semi-formal

c) Informal

Suggested Answer Structure (Task 1)

Report structures may vary depending on the type of situation. The letter will generally consist of five sections and three main paragraphs.

Scoring Criteria (Task 1)

Task 1 is rated from 1 to 9 based on four areas that determine the final score. Each criterion is described briefly below:
