About this ebook
Libby has the perfect birthday surprise planned for Cara. Unlike previous year's surprises, Libby is determined this surprise will go smoothly. In fact, her two friends Maci, an aphid wasp, and Fern, a stinkbug, are coming along to help. All Libby has to do is find the right battery at the Big Tree's battery sale and return it to the shed before Cara's birthday party. Easy right? But Libby's trip doesn't go exactly as planned, leaving Libby with an unusual gift and her friend, Fern, convinced they broke the time barrier.

Meet Libby Lacewing
My name is Libby, and I'm a lacewing bug. I live on an apple orchard nestled in the Midwest where I help my family remove apple-harming, sap-sucking pests from the apple trees. Especially, aphids. Aphids are small bugs that steal nutrients from the apple buds causing them to turn brown and wither. My family and I round up the aphids and herd them to the roots.
Meet Cara the Beetle
Cara, my best friend, is a golden ground beetle. She lives in an old log by the shed. She's not the best flier. Instead she uses a small plastic toy jeep to get around. Her uncle owns and runs the carnival box inside the shed, and Cara helps him create and fix the rides. Cara can fix almost any machine. She's also building her own carnival ride. It'll be the best carnival ride ever – when she finishes it.
Meet Maci the Aphid Wasp
Maci and I have been friends since we were larvae. Her family lives in the same tree. She and her family also guard the orchard from apple-harming pests. But they don't herd them to the roots like my family. When Maci or her family find an aphid or other sapsucker, they mummify it (they prefer the term encase), wrapping it up in silky tan strands like a mummy until it can be removed from the apple tree. Maci likes to investigate orchard mysteries and legends and goes on survival training trips in the Wild. She's not afraid of anything – certainly not dinosaurs.
Meet Fern the Stinkbug
I know what you're going to say, "But stinkbugs are pests.
