Zone 8 is the choicest place to grow Cannabis outside, within the United States of America. It is where most of THC Cannabis is grown today. California’s Emerald Triangle produces 1.7 million pounds of Cannabis each year. Oregon produces 1.3 million pounds each year. Colorado grows 1.2 million pounds each year. In total, the US produces around six million pounds or 3,000 tons of THC Cannabis buds every year. However, the United States presently consumes over seven million pounds of Cannabis buds every year. Another problem is that interstate (across State) movement of Cannabis is not allowed. Cannabis can only be consumed in the State it is grown in. Therefore, millions of pounds of US grown Cannabis cannot satisfy the demands for it all of it, and millions of pounds of imported Cannabis is required to meet the demands across the USA every year.
Presently, across America, one in 30 persons over 21 years of age purchase a quarter-ounce bag of Cannabis every week. They are consuming twelve grams a week. A joint is a half gram of Cannabis. So one in 30 people over age 21 are consuming 24 joints a week or three bong hits a day and twice as many on Sundays. When prohibition is lifted upon Cannabis, a typical adult is likely to consume 9 grams a week or 18 joints a week or the perverbial two joints every day.
The three largest cities in the USA are the three largest THC Cannabis bud consumers among the world. New York City consumes 400,000 pounds of Cannabis buds every year. Los Angeles consumes 280,000 pounds and Chicago consumes 200,000 pounds. When THC Cannabis is legalized across the entire United States, consumption of Cannabis buds is expected to increase to 145 million pounds, which will require about 253,000 acres of farmland from among the Zone 8 areas. The problem is Zone 8 only amounts to 9% of the 687 million acres of available farmland across the Continental America, that is roughly 66 million acres, of which are the heaviest, most densely populated areas inside of America, due to the choicest weather and subsequent urban developed land.
At best, backyard space available for Cannabis production may be able to produce the demands for the 145 million pounds of expected needs. This will require a trade among homeowners within the highly coveted Zone 8 for their ability to produce the Cannabis. That trade is likely to continue at $250.00 per ounce of high-quality bud produced. However, if the world follows suit with American repeal of Cannabis prohibition laws, world demand will quickly outpace the world’s ability to grow it, there simply is not enough undeveloped land mass within the Zone 8 hardiness areas of the world to supply the world with Cannabis. If you live in a Zone 8 area, and you have available space to grow Cannabis, it may behoove you to test your gardening skills and to grow some Cannabis and see how you fare on horticulture and salesmanship.
CBD demand is the wildcard when it comes to estimation of the amount of space that will be required to grow Cannabis in America after prohibition repeal. As of 2020, the contiguous 48 States grow 68,000 acres of hemp, the lowest THC Cannabis variety used to be shredded and to have CBD extracted from the fibrous material. If THC Cannabis demand increases from 10,430 acres presently to 253,000 acres, then CBD Cannabis acreage should increase from 57,570 acres to around 1.7 million acres. Making room for two million acres of Cannabis production when the Zone 8 space is limited to 66 million acres of farm land, means some other crops will have to give way to allow for the increased Cannabis production.
