the trouble with testing

Ever since the conversation of cannabis legalization began, one of the major topics of contention has been how to properly and accurately identify impairment. This is not a new conversation for advocates, law enforcement or the scientists behind the scenes. However, the most recent work being conducted by leading researchers is new and exciting.

While scare tactics against smoking and driving harken back to the days of the DARE program, there is a very legitimate reason why it’s important to clearly detect THC-impaired driving. According to The Harvard Gazette, THC use before driving can at least double the risk of fatal accidents. However, due to the combination of suppressed cannabis research, and the fact that THC is detectable in the human body long after consumption, there is a real problem for those who are studying cannabis impairment, even in 2022.
