During the discussion, Killer Mike strongly advocated the need for reparations for Black people, pointing out that Black society has never opposed Native Americans or other groups from receiving reparations from the U.S.government. “You don’t hear Black people arguing against reparations for anyone. We’ve never argued against [Native American] reservations, we’ve never argued against any payouts for people in America was wrong, we’re simply saying that while we’re at the table, let’s do something to aid the people that, until 60 years ago, lived under apartheid.” Maher questioned further, noting that “With Native Americans, we gave them the casino industry. What about, you know, supermarkets?” to which Killer Mike immediately responded: “Could Black people have the marijuana industry?” he said. “Give us marijuana. Multibillion-dollar industry. It’s still fresh, it’s still growing. Why doesn’t Killer Mike have a marijuana license in Georgia?” Just two days later, Killer Mike received three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album.
