About this ebook

Who needs Valentine's Day when you have Trouble…

For Cary Redmond, Portland's resident magical Protector, a simple night out with her friends to celebrate an alternative to Valentine's Day should involve good food, too much wine, and plenty of girl talk. What it actually involves is…a lot more dangerous.

But saving the innocent is what Cary does. Even on pretend national holidays.

And when called to save someone from the manipulative dangers of a wizard, Cary races to the rescue. Her friends at her back. Her wine buzz left behind.

Because no one messes with love on Cary's watch.

Cary smoothed down her skirt and fluffed her hair, studying her makeup in the long mirror hanging on the back of her bedroom closet door. Not bad. Not bad. The black skirt had a little flip around her knees which made her look nice-curvy instead of too hippy. The black silk shirt was made by her best friend Marianne—a weaver with actual magical skills with needle and thread—so it fit perfectly without gaping over her chest and straining the shirt buttons. She’d managed makeup, even if it was light, and left her hair down, which she rarely did.

    Overall… Yeah, she felt cute.

Perfect for a night out with the girls in which they thumbed their noses at Valentine’s Day.

Not that she was a big time Valentine’s Day hater. That was Lucy. Lucy detested the holiday with a white hot rage that was a little terrifying from the barely five foot tall red-headed martial arts expert. To sooth her annual grumpiness, Marianne—the only one of them actually in a relationship at the moment—suggested they celebrate Galentine’s Day instead.
