Miss Asondra StarN'air

Miss Asondra StarN'air has been in the healthcare industry for more than twenty years now. She's single and hopes to remarry someday. She would also like to travel the world doing whatever God calls her to do. Whether it's, sing, write, speak, wash feet, whatever! Miss StarN'air felt the dire need to write this book and believes it was a calling from God that she did so, to help open the hearts and minds of caregivers all over the world and introduce them to Jesus as well. StarNair's loves the work of ministry, she's ordained and can perform marriages. By trade She's a certified nurse assistant, and too, an advocate for both seniors and caregivers nationwide. She lives in the state of Ohio and enjoys Christian living and pursues "Peace" at all cost. It is her heart's desire that those who are suffering, lost, bullied, or abused find salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. She hopes this "Caregivers Bible" will help with all that. Miss Asondra StarN'air also known as 'Star', says, if this book can get ONE person saved, just ONE, then it was worth all the days and nights she cried, asking God to take this body of work from her. Many are called, but few are chosen. Matt.22:14 Asondra StarN'air answered the call." It Is Finished!"

    Straight out of The Book

As God’s messenger, I give each of you this warning. Be honest in your estimate of yourself, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his own body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body of Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us need all the others.

Hello and Welcome to the World of Caregiving!

    IMAGE_4.jpg

    Introduction

FOR MORE THAN twenty years now, I have worked and observed the world of caregiving. I have traveled from place to place throughout the state of Ohio, providing care in just about every area of healthcare I am a State Tested Nurse Assistant (STNA). I’ve worked in Hospitals, Nursing homes, Home-care, and Hospice. I’ve also worked with the Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) prior to all that I ran a type A daycare center. I worked with children 0 to 5 years old. I did this for 14 years and guess what? I’m a pet parent too, I know what to do, so you see, I have a lot of experience and know how when it comes to providing care.

And before all that, I spent my younger years in hospitality, I worked in the restaurant industry for many, many years. So how did I get here? How did I become a Caregiver? Sadly and unfortunately my dad got sick, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and given only 3 to 6 months to live and I was devastated, shocked and unprepared. Suddenly I became his caretaker because he wanted no one else but me, he wanted me to handle all of his affairs too.

Caregiver, what’s that? I Knew how to take care of children, and pets but, adults? And someone whose dying and not just someone, my dad, oh help me Jesus, I thought, because I had no clue of what to do or how to care for my dad, until Jesus showed me. Yes, all he said was pretend like you are taking care of me. From that moment on, I wasn’t taking care of my dad, I was taking care of Jesus! World, that’s how Miss Asondra StarN’air me, Became a Caregiver. And not just any caregiver either, I became a caregiver in Jesus name. Excellence care, no excuses, no one to blame. But little did I know, that God would use me to write a book. He took all the love I had inside my heart for him and my earthly dad and placed a brand new calling on my life. Next thing I knew I was hooked, I wanted to start caring for seniors like my dad. I wanted to make sure that the elderly was well cared for under my watch. So I entered the world of Caregiving and never looked back. But it wasn’t easy you see, shortly after my dad died, a part of me died too; and it took a great while for me to get over it and heal but, when I finally did, I starting taking health care classes. I became a home health aide. (I hate that word ‘aide’, it leaves a dark feeling each time I hear it.) while still doing my daycare business, I started taking care of seniors on the weekends, I thought that was going to be it, daycare during the week and senior care on the weekends but the new calling that God was placing on my life kept saying bye -bye daycare, hello senior care. So eventually, I gave it all up, the daycare business, money and all. I was making a lot of money too almost fourteen thousand dollars a month when I decided to go with God’s new call on my life, I must admit, the money mattered, but God’s call on my life mattered the most. I am here on this planet to do his will, not mine. I trust God, He said to me, Don’t Worry! Be at peace and rest assure I will always take care of you with money or without money. (God and I are best friends, we talk everyday, a lot and about everything) He said he will make sure that I have enough to I eat, have shelter and he’ll keep shoes on my feet. And like Abraham in the bible, I believed God! Like I said, I made a lot of money, I went from a little under fourteen thousand dollars and thousands a month to a little over minimum wage; I know that’s crazy but that’s the choice I made, I don’t sweat it God is with me, He’s leading the way. Too, I’m no longer a prisoner of this world, I’m not in a cage.

As I see it, I’m with Christ, I’m changing lives in so many ways and if you want to, so can you!

Listen up, listen, if you are a caregiver, or thinking about becoming a caregiver my advise to all of you out there is this: Let Christ lead not you, let Him do for you what He did for me, He showed me the Excellent Way! So if you have lots of love inside of you to give and a caring heart, like me, become a caregiver for Christ. Reach out, help serve and care for others, be a team player too, if you do, god will surely bless you. Nevertheless, ALL are called, but few are chosen. This book A Caregivers Bible To Excellence is my contributions to the world, a once shy and timid girl. Now I’m in a different world! Today I’m a caregiver for Christ. And let me tell you this, all the hard work and time spent on this book,in my heart, it was truly worth the sacrifice. It is finished! It’s yours now and I hope that this book will change the way you think about care-giving forever. I tell you the truth, nobody does it better than the man above. And I must say this, I believe that in order to care for someone completely you must not do it for the money, you must do it with a full heart of love.

Dear love, it’s my hope that you will get so much out of this book and agree that it is truly a Caregiver’s Bible to Excellence! Let’s go.....

    Jesus, The Almighty Caregiver

There has never been or will ever be a Caregiver like our Lord Jesus Christ. He healed the sick, let the blind see, made the cripple walk—miracles after miracles!

When I began my careers as a caregiver out in the world, I had no real role model. Although I received hundreds of hours in training and eventually became a certified nurse assistant. Still I saw no one whom I could look up to or mimic. On the contrary, I saw more disturbing things I do not care to mention.

With no real role model, I began listening to that still small voice inside, guiding me, telling me what to do. The voice inside me said each patient was Jesus: love and care for each one like you are caring for Jesus. Remember, you are not working for man; you’re working for me.

Check this out, when something would come up and I was not sure of what to do because it was unusual or out of the norm, like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, Jesus got that! He would give me creative ways to handle anything that came my way. My job was to listen to the master and do what he say—everything turned out better than Okay.

Soon, people started noticing that I was no ordinary caregiver, certainly not their typical aide, there was something different and special about my work, and the people I took care of said so. All through my care giving career, and still holds true today, customers would call back to the office and demanded I be the one assigned to them. I was in great demand, so much so, that I couldn’t get a day off, I was booked up seven days a week. Little did they know, Jesus was running the show!

He became my role model in every way, I took him on each assign-ment and so should you. Truth be told, I take him everywhere I go, whether I’m working or not, he’s my everyday role model for life!

I cannot say this enough, and this goes out to the entire health-care team—doctors included. There is only one role model for Caregiving, and that is Jesus Christ. As caregivers, we must start to look to him to help us help others and ourselves; only then will we truly be saving lives and providing excellent care.

    One Body With Many Parts

    1 Corinthians 12:12–27

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand, that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, I am not part of the body because I am not an eye, would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?

But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, I don’t need you. The head can’t say to the feet, I don’t need you.

In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least im-portant are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

My message to field workers (me included) is this: As Caregivers of the Body of Christ, let there be no strife among us. Our first job is to take care of each other. Yes, love and work well with each other as a team. We are—again—one body. Without love, peace, and harmony between us, The Body how can we really serve and take care of others? Therefore, we need each other!

Hello, my name is Miss Asondra StarN’air, I’m a caregiver too! Everybody can call me Star; it is a pleasure meeting all of you too. This book was written by a caregiver, ME I wrote it with caregivers in mind. I tried to put in everything I could think of to help aid you into becoming an excellent caregiver, but it still won’t happen if Jesus is not the role model. Jesus is The Greatest Caregiver of All and the one who inspired me to write this book for you. We have a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get started.

Health Care Is A Team Effort

Each health-care provider is like a member of the team with a special role. Some team members are doctors or technicians who help diagnose diseases. Others are experts who treat disease or care for the patients’ physical and emotional needs.

Doctor (Dr.)—Qualified practitioner of medicine, a physician.

Physician Assistant (PA)—Practice medicine on a team with physi-cians and surgeons and other health-care workers.

Registered Nurse (RN)—Is tasked with the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in the care of individuals, family, groups, communities, and populations.

In other states like Michigan and Georgia, STNAs are called CNAs (certified nurse assistants). Nurse assistants are the eyes and ears of the RN and LPN. They play a vital role in making sure patients receive the hands-on care they need.

Home Health Aides (HHA)—Supported care provided in the home. May or may not be certified; depends on company’s policy.

    ADLs

    Activities of Daily Living

As caregivers, we need a solid understanding of activities of daily living, what it means, how it was proposed and our role as caregivers.

Activities of Daily Living is a term used in health care to refer to people’s daily self-care activities.

The concept of ADLs was originally proposed in 1950 by Dr. Sidney Katz and his team at Benjamin Rose Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been added to and refined by a variety of researchers since that time.

Health-care professionals often use a person’s abilities or inabilities to perform ADLs as a measurement of the individual’s functional status, particularly in regard to people with disabilities and the elderly.

And of course, younger children often require help from adults to perform ADLs as well; they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform them independently.

There are two components to activities of daily living. One is called the basic, which consists of the following ADLs:

    Bathing and showering

    Dressing

    Self-feeding

    Personal hygiene and grooming

Toilet hygiene (getting to the toilet, cleaning oneself, and get-ting back up)

    IMAGE_12.jpg

The other component is what we call Instrumental Activities of Daily Living IADLs and that consist of the following:

    Housework

    Preparing meals

    Taking medications as prescribed/medication reminders

    Managing money (family only)

    Shopping for groceries, clothing, etc.

Use of telephone or other form of communication

    Transportation

Here is a useful mnemonic caregivers can use: SHAFT.

    Shopping

    Housekeeping

    Accounting

    Food preparation

    Transportation/telephones/devices

And be advise, only assigned family members should handle money management affairs, not employed caregivers.

Now, when it comes to deciding what is needed for an individual receiving care, it is often the occupational therapist or registered nurse (RN) that evaluates IADLs when completing patient assessments.

The American Occupational Therapy Association identifies twelve types of IADLs that may be performed as co-occupation with others.

Care of others (including selecting and supervising caregivers)

    Care of pets

    Child rearing

    Communication management

    Community mobility

    Financial management and maintenance

    Home establishment and maintenance

    Meal preparation and cleanup

    Religious observances

    Safety procedures and emergency responses

    Shopping

Anyone caring for a loved one or employed by another company still can be assessed by an occupational therapist at their discretion. Occupational therapists have been given the freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation. WE as caregivers, must adhere to advice given by other professionals at that time.

Our role as caregivers is to ensure we do an excellent job at meeting the needs of individuals who are in our care. Continuing education will be the key to our success.

    PHASES OF AGING

In the United States all people over the age 18 are considered adults but there is a very large difference between say an 21 year old and a 50 year old wouldn’t you agree, most people would. So we separate them. Young Adults and Middle Adults.

But what some of you caregivers may not know is the elderly population has been divided into what’s known as ‘Life Stage Subgroups.’

Reason for this is because today’s seniors are not the seniors of their generation these seniors are living a lot longer and thriving too especially ‘The Young Old’. Many in this subgroup need very little help or none at all. They still drive and live relatively normal and independent lives. Some of these movers and shakers however, live in assistant living communities, downsizing and preparing for the time they will need help, but until then this age group is still having a good time living life to the fullest. The next subgroup ‘Middle Old’ is starting to need some assistance, However, may not be ready for long term care (LTC) facilities. But still, very important that caregivers keep close eyes on changes that may be taking place. This group is more prone to falls and may show some early signs of memory care impairments, such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease but not all, just keep close watch on this group.

Now we have the last sub group ‘The Old, Old’ I think that says it all!

This Group is old, old, and very frail and venerable.

It is our responsibility as Caregivers to help love and take care of the sick, elderly, poor, widowed and anyone else that is in need of care. Whether Formal or Informal we must step in and lend a helping hand. Leviticus 19:32 you shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of the old man. and you shall fear god: I Am the Lord.
