About The Author
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God
. What better words would describe the special children whose lives depend on people’s compassion and understanding of their status. Chico, the star of this book is a special child diagnosed to have moderate to advance autism at a time when autism was still almost unheard of. This was in 1988 when Chico at the age of two started to begin his journey in a world that was totally different from the world we know. The struggle of his parents to give him a normal life would be a story that is poignant and touching.
The unconditional love and acceptance as the starting point will lead to the exciting, hilarious but at times heart breaking stories of their day to day experiences.
This book is dedicated to all the special parents who do not exactly know what is in store for them in the years to come. I tell you now, God has given us this gift of joy and it will be up to us to maneuver our lives to the direction of happiness and glory. Yes there will be some challenges and difficulties along the way but nothing that does not bring its corresponding pride and joy.
The book was also meant to show the importance of two things in the life of a special child. The first being Acceptance Everything starts with acceptance and without it there will be difficulties of moving on.
The second is Schooling. An integral part of the quality life we would like to give our child would be coming from schooling. As parents we can only give so much but we will still need to afford the child some interaction with children and some semblance of normalcy of life exposure for him. This we can only get from schooling.
This book is also dedicated to several people who in one way or the other were a part of our lives. Along the way they gave their unconditional support and love to Chico and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Too numerous to mention but I will still try to make a run down of a few.
My mom and Pop who were the most caring, understanding and loving grandparents to Chico. My late mother in law likewise was as kind, understanding and generous to Chico. My siblings, Kookie and his family who Chico knew to be his family, enjoyed every moment with them. My sister Jackie and her family, although miles away tried to connect with him. Chico’s Papa, who
