    HI,

    I AM REBECCA

I am so glad you have joined me on this aromatic journey of sharing essential oils with others!

Offering a short class in a relaxed atmosphere is a wonderful way to expose people to aromatherapy. Many of these same people often become customers, buying essential oils from you or taking another course.

The more contact you have with prospective customers, with an actual person behind the product, the more likely they will purchase from you. Presenting classes is a great way to market yourself and your goods with tangible benefits, whether your product is an educational workshop or an aromatherapy product. If you are asked to speak at a community center, those interested in learning more will return.

To make the class a memorable experience, be organized and ready! In this book, I am going to show you how to do that and much more!

Not everyone learns the same way. Some people learn by reading, some by listening, and others by doing. In this chapter, we are going to explore different ways that people learn.

    Learning Styles

First, let’s start with some questions to get you thinking about your learning style.

    What helps you learn best?

What helps you to remember? Do you need to see it, do it, or write it down?

What has been hard for you to learn when it comes to aromatherapy?

What was complicated about it, or why did you find it challenging? What do you think made it difficult for you?

What was easy for you to learn and remember in your aromatherapy course? Why do you think it was easy?

There are three classes of learning styles, but some people overlap the various styles of learning.

    Auditory Learner

An auditory learner is going to learn and remember things best by listening and by speaking. Students who are auditory learners greatly benefit from spoken lectures and talking through what they have just learned. These will be the students who raise their hands during class to repeat or summarize what was just taught. These students would rather attend a class when sick than relying on lecturer notes from their friends. Even if they study using written materials, they will grasp concepts better if they read notes aloud. You might recognize them from a class because they like asking questions, explaining concepts to classmates, or repeating what has been taught.

    Visual Learner

Visual learners learn by seeing. They love graphs, charts, and pictures. Students who are visual learners love watching videos and watching others complete a task. Also known as spatial learning, people in this learning style prefers to use their eyes to grasp knowledge. They will focus more on written material and diagrams—they are often seen taking notes and doodling during a class. Visual students need time to process visual cues and do better with regular handouts and participation in writing examples on the board.

    Kinesthetic Learner

Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. These are your students who seem to light up during the blending portion of your class. Once they put the information into practice, such as making an aromatherapy product, they understand and retain the information much better. Also known as tactile learners, they are the people who prefer to learn from experience or practical application. Such students are often quite active in class and will enjoy activities that require them to move from one point to another. A closer look at this type of learner indicates that they are active in outdoor activities and have an impressive class performance when fully engaged.

One other learning style we want to cover is visual-auditory learners. These students will eagerly read the student handout and take copious amounts of notes during your presentation. Reading/writing learners understand concepts better when they are in the form of written words. Often overlapping visual learning, these learners will exhibit habits such as searching the internet constantly, making consistent diary entries, reading material posted on the internet, and looking up words in the dictionary.

You will have students in your classroom that have any of the above learning styles or a combination of all of them. This is why
