    INTRODUCTION

    43589.pngGettyImages-476272997.jpg

Writing and communicating the English Language can be a challenge for many people. Having watched and listened to popular news stations, talk shows, and sports analysts, it has become obvious to me that some components of the American Standard English are constantly omitted or misused in the speakers’ communications. While these presenters are always prepared and profound in discussing their materials, they probably have little or no idea of what a gerund is and how it should be used in their speaking.

With a focus on the gerund, this book will highlight some daily mistakes communicated by people in all facets of life. It will discuss other words that are frequently misused or miscommunicated according to American Standard English. It will particularly provide seniors in high school and college with a sample letter of intent for college, sample resumes, sample letters of application, and other communication skills and resources for employment. It will also discuss the concept of financial literacy so students will learn how to manage their money.

To help students grasp the concepts, this book uses the same fictitious characters, employers, and schools throughout the book. The characters and organizations appear in the sample resumes, letters of application, mock interviews, letter of intent for college, and other business letters. Some of the key characters in the book are John Doe, Cleve Smart, and Jane Bright. A key employer is Cedar Valley Landing Company. Also, a key school is Kingdom High School.
